Job Title: Credit Controller
Location: London/Remote
Start Date: September
Job Type: Contract

My client is a market leading Media company is looking for a credit controller to assist up until December.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening for alerting customers of non-payment, determining reasons for non-payment and explaining payment options in simple terms
  • Diplomacy for discussing sensitive matters tactfully
  • Negotiation skills for convincing customers to meet their financial commitments
  • Conflict resolution for calming hostile non-paying customers
  • Bookkeeping and numeracy for determining outstanding payments and appropriate payment instalments
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound knowledge of financial regulations and practices.
  • Significant experience within an Accounts Receivable role/Proven experience and understanding of AR (allocating cash and chasing)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to handle large volumes of data accurately and efficiently
  • Methodical approach to day to day, monthly and annual tasks and an eye for detail
  • Apply understanding of assigned accounting processes to identify gaps and propose continuous improvement measures
  • Proactively seeks feedback from fellow team members and other internal and external customers, and uses this to inform future delivery of services.

Competencies required for this role include:

  • Financial Knowledge: A strong understanding of accounting principles, credit terms, and financial analysis is essential for evaluating creditworthiness, setting credit limits, and managing outstanding debts.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is key when dealing with customers, clients, and internal stakeholders. You must be able to communicate clearly and assertively, especially when discussing payment terms and resolving disputes.
  • Relationship Management: Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers is crucial for successful debt recovery. A credit controller needs to be diplomatic, customer-oriented, and empathetic when dealing with clients facing financial difficulties.
  • Negotiation Skills: You'll often need to negotiate payment plans or settlements with clients. Strong negotiation skills can help you reach mutually beneficial agreements that ensure timely payments.
  • Analytical Abilities: Being able to analyze financial data and credit reports will aid you in making informed decisions about credit extensions and assessing risk.
  • Problem-Solving: Credit controllers encounter various challenges, such as late payments or disputed invoices. Being a skilled problem solver will help you find solutions and navigate difficult situations.
  • Time Management: Managing multiple accounts and deadlines requires excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Accurate data entry and attention to detail are crucial to avoiding errors in invoicing and maintaining clean financial records.
  • Knowledge of Legal and Regulatory Framework: Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations related to debt collection and credit management is essential to ensure compliance and avoid legal issues.
  • Resilience and Patience: Debt collection can be challenging and sometimes emotionally charged. Being resilient and patient will help you handle difficult situations with professionalism.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in using accounting software, customer relationship management (CRM) tools, and Microsoft Excel is often necessary for efficiently managing credit-related tasks.
  • Continuous Learning: The credit industry is constantly evolving, so staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices will help you remain effective in your role.
