Our client is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join their construction and maintenance company in Essex. The ideal candidate will be an experienced accounts professional, proficient in managing day-to-day financial transactions, producing financial spreadsheets and trackers, and comfortable with chasing outstanding invoices. Knowledge of Xero or similar accounting software is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including recording financial transactions, maintaining ledgers, and reconciling accounts.
* Produce accurate financial spreadsheets and trackers to monitor project costs, cash flow, and overall financial performance.
* Prepare and issue invoices promptly, and manage accounts receivable by following up on outstanding payments.
* Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
* Maintain accurate and organised records of all financial transactions and documents.
* Support month-end and year-end financial closing processes.
* Collaborate with the finance team to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
* Assist in processing payroll, VAT returns, and other statutory filings.
* Provide general administrative support to the finance team as needed.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
* Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role, ideally within the construction or maintenance industry.
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience in creating and maintaining financial spreadsheets and trackers.
* Familiarity with accounting software, particularly Xero, is highly desirable.
* Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
* Effective communication skills, with the confidence to chase and resolve outstanding invoices.
* A proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
* AAT qualification or similar accounting certification is an advantage but not essential
