QC Technician - Nights
A prominent global specialty chemicals manufacturer is looking for a diligent QC Technician to join their Lancashire team. The role is centered on maintaining high product and service standards through comprehensive inspections, laboratory testing, and related quality assurance activities. The position is for night shifts, running from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Sunday to Thursday.
Candidates for this role should have a strong background in chemical manufacturing or production, with hands-on experience in quality control testing. Expertise in gas chromatography (GC) and auto titration is particularly important.
Role Purpose:
The QC Technician role is essential for ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services by conducting inspections, testing, and quality control tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Inspections:
* Conduct regular inspections of products and services.
* Communicate effectively, providing clear written and verbal reports.
* Proficiently use internal ERP and complaint management systems.
* Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely communication post-inspection.
* Ensure that inspected items meet the desired quality standards.
Lab Testing:
* Execute all QC test methods and processes with competence.
* Regularly calibrate lab equipment and report any trends or failures.
* Ensure batch sheets are accurately completed and data is correctly entered into the ERP system.
Success Indicators:
* Competence in all testing methods signed off.
* Testing completed promptly without production delays.
* Consistent and reliable test results with improved first-pass rates.
* Accurate data analysis with no errors found in audits.
Quality-Related Lab Tasks:
* Develop or amend QC test procedures as needed.
* Review and update QC specifications.
* Provide advice on lab equipment and maintain adequate supplies.
* Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in the lab.
Success Indicators:
* Improved accuracy and efficiency of testing procedures.
* Increase in first-time pass rates and reduction in customer complaints.
* Availability of appropriate lab equipment when required.
Covering for Absences:
* Coordinate with other lab technicians to provide cover during holidays, absences, and high workload periods.
Success Indicators:
* Seamless coverage ensuring continuous operations without significant gaps.
Personal Development:
* Attend relevant training courses to enhance skills and aspire to higher levels of competence.
Success Indicators:
* Demonstrated growth in skills and knowledge, contributing to career progression.
Required Knowledge & Experience:
* Experience in QC inspections of both manufactured and purchased goods.
* Familiarity with inspections at goods-in and handling customer returned products.
* Capability to support QA activities and assist with customer complaint investigations.
Knowledge:
* Experience in a Quality Control, Manufacturing, or Production environment, preferably within FMCG.
* Practical experience with building-type products and chemical laboratory environments.
Skills:
* Ability to multitask and manage workloads under pressure.
* Proficiency in MS Office, including spreadsheets, databases, and email
