Principal EC&I Engineer - Manchester

Vertical Recruitment is working with a distinguished Engineering Consultancy, boasting a team of over 1,000 professionals across the UK and Europe. A multi-award-winning organisation, they are celebrated for delivering safe and sustainable design solutions across sectors such as aviation, defence, life sciences, industry, nuclear, power, public infrastructure, and rail. They are currently seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to join their Manchester office. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing, dynamic team.

With a strong presence in the chemical, pharmaceutical, process manufacturing, nuclear, and power generation industries, the company offers comprehensive EC&I services for complex projects across the UK and Europe. Their wealth of experience enables them to provide expert solutions, from design and installation to operation and maintenance of instrumented electrical power systems, helping clients achieve their goals. They support their clients at every stage, from feasibility studies to decommissioning, ensuring functional safety and excellence in delivery.

As a key player in their thriving Control and Instrumentation department, you will lead medium-sized projects or manage specific work packages on larger assignments. You will guide and mentor a team of talented engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative environment that consistently delivers high-quality results. Additionally, you’ll support the Associates with the day-to-day management of the local Electrical team.

Building strong, long-term client relationships is essential to the company’s ongoing success, so you’ll be adept at cultivating rapport and trust with both internal and external stakeholders. Your exceptional organisational and communication skills will be crucial in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

The role may involve occasional site visits and travel across the UK to various project locations, providing you with a diverse and stimulating work environment.

Requirements

Essential:

* Significant experience in EC&I designs and overseeing the delivery of the full project lifecycle

* Experience operating in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries

* Knowledge of hazardous area equipment selection and installation design requirements

* Actively working towards a professional registration (CEng/IEng)

* HNC minimum with suitable experience

Preferable:

* Degree-qualified in Control and Instrument Engineering

* Understanding pharmaceutical clean room equipment selection and installation design requirements

* Knowledge of safety-related calculations and providing input to safety reviews - HAZOP, LOPA and SIL assessments.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by various factors. The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain security clearance for this role as required by our clients and sectors.
