Role:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will excel in engineering design and be comfortable leading projects from inception to completion, working with minimal supervision. They will also assist in planning and managing an appropriate resource to deliver projects.

They will prepare conceptual designs of HVAC systems, pipe work systems, plant sizing and selection and calculations and assist with the preparation of the client brief.

The role also requires that they are confident giving technical presentations to the professional team as well as managing site coordination meetings with contractors.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work across multiple projects at any one time, and will prioritise work to ensure timely delivery.

In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the directors to contribute to the development of improved standards and procedures within the company.

Responsibilities:

Design

* Design safe, economical and reliable mechanical systems to meet the contractual scope of work and comply with the applicable standards and regulations.

* Develop the preparation of clear and concise drawings, specifications and product schedules to define mechanical systems.

* Coordinate mechanical design with other disciplines (e.g. architectural, structural, electrical) to minimise conflicts and avoid costly revisions.

* Check tender submissions, drawings and technical submittals to ensure quality of products and equipment are in accordance with design.

* Undertake site visits and monitor progress against the design.

* Assist subcontractors to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications and resolve problems during construction.

Management

* Work well within the team and manages medium-sized projects internally and externally in respect of deliverables, resources and financials.

* Assist with the review of appointment documents and scopes of service.

* Set targets and monitor workload against deliverables.

* Report any feedback or issues concerning either projects or team to the directors.

* Demonstrate a good level of oral and written communication (in particular well developed report writing skills) setting the highest standards of communication both internally and externally.

* Ensure compliance with company Quality Assurance procedures.

* Build relationships and contacts with potential sources of new work, maintain existing relationships.

* Confidently assist with the delivery of presentations and pitches.

Technical

* Demonstrate a good understanding of BSRIA BG6 and RIBA stages, Part L, BREEAM and renewable technologies.

* Demonstrate a general understanding of other MEP engineering disciplines, other than your own, sufficient to understand their impact in the overall design, and converse at a high level.

* Ensure proficiency in the use of the following systems; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Hevacomp or IES, Outlook.

* Develop ability to use AutoCAD and Revit.

* Attained or working towards Chartered status.

* Undertake Continual Professional Development by reading technical journals, attending relevant IEE/CIBSE technical seminars from time to time and attending in house seminars aimed at increasing technical and operational knowledge.

Financial

* Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project costing principles and control changes during project development.

* Utilise strong financial management skills to negotiate additional fees with the client that may be due.

* Forecast resourcing via Union Square management database.

* Assist with preparation of fee proposals.

* Maintain required level of utilisation and complete timesheet on a weekly basis.

* Assist directors and principals to ensure that projects are invoiced promptly, and assist with debt collection.

Project Interface

* Represent the company at design team and client meetings with confidence.

* Liaise with clients and othersto obtain technical and operational information relating to the projects.

* Maintain a project overview at all times, able to provide updates on project statusto client and others whenever required.

* Keep project documentation up-to-date and comply with file management protocols
