Description/Job Summary

Position Summary

Baltimore City Community College is searching for an Assistant Professor in Nursing (Adult Medical/Surgical). This position requires expertise in teaching theory and clinical courses in Medical/Surgical. The selected candidate will teach 15 credit hours per semester. Responsibilities include maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; training faculty in new curriculum as needed; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be any combination of face to face (day or evening), hybrid or online, and are subject to change as needed.

Responsibilities/Duties

Overview of position: Summary of position's responsibilities:

Contributes to the overall achievement of the college's mission and goals through effective instruction and classroom management.

Plans and prepares for assigned instructional courses.

Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy.

Provide input for the development of Nursing program standards and policies regarding admission, progression, and graduation.

Develops instructional outcomes and appropriate evaluation methods that align with course and program outcomes.

Maintains data to support the student learning and outcome assessment process.

Creates and maintains an environment of rapport and respect.

Clearly establishes expectations for learning and achievement.

Maintains up-to-date accurate records on attendance and student progress.

Enhances the visibility of Nursing and its contributions by providing leadership in the Nursing program, college, and community.

Participates in interdisciplinary efforts to address health care and educational needs within the institution and local community.

Makes referrals to college resources available to provide services or assistance to students.

Provides guidance to students for academic planning.

Engages in the college community for intra-professional networking and professional development.

Keeps abreast of developments in the field of expertise basing current instructional practice on recent evidence.

Communicates learning expectations.

Varies teaching techniques and incorporate current technologies.

Provides students with written and oral feedback.

Engages in self-assessment of teaching practices and professional development needs.

Keep all classes and office hours for the required amount of time set forth by the college and maintain good classroom management.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Nursing.

Three years of experience teaching in a college setting.

Two years clinical experience in a patient care area.

Familiarity with Canvas or another learning management system (LMS).

Position-Specific Requirements:

Licensure as an active RN License in the State of Maryland

CPR certification

Yearly PPD (tuberculin) testing

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Five years of teaching in a college setting, preferably community college experience.

Five years of experience in adult medical/surgical patient care

Experience with Accreditation
