Position Overview

The Laboratory Assistant strategically supports the client’s organizational goals through the day-to-day laboratory operations. This part time role is essential and requires onsite presence in Stanford Research Park. Key duties of this position include:
media preparation and equipment sanitation,
handling of hazardous materials and chemical reagents; and,
inventory management of laboratory materials and consumables.
This position will be working collaboratively with the scientific team to maintain laboratory safety. The ideal candidate is truly a self-starter with strategic vision, a hands-on approach, and a passion for good lab practices. This individual should understand client strategies and goals to drive greater opportunities in performance satisfaction and quality assurance. This individual anticipates needs and exceeds key performance indicators to dazzle the client.
Pay Range: $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
Title: Laboratory Assistant
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40hrs per week
Primary Responsibilities
Work with Lab Operation Manager and Lab Operation Lead to prioritize tasks and assignments to maximize efficiency and productivity based on team needs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software necessary to create and maintain reports and logs
Performance of media preparation and media QC
Order and restock consumables and other laboratory materials
Operation of autoclave and glassware washer
Clean, sterilize, prepare, and distribute glassware, ensuring appropriate levels of glassware inventory in all areas of operations
Assist with basic equipment maintenance, moving, and installation
Assist with gas ordering and management, including CO2, LN2, and dry ice
Assist with management of launderable lab coats, scrubs, and towels
Serve as backup for shipping and receiving
Collaborate to maintain facility hygiene and a safe working environment
Rely on latest methodologies and best lab practices
Requirements
Prior laboratory experience
Minimum education level: GED or equivalent, with BS degree or partial college coursework preferred in laboratory sciences
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks
Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and occasionally move heavy equipment
Should possess strong attention to detail with critical analytical skills
Should be resourceful and possess good organization skills
Should possess the ability to independently solve problems and troubleshoot while performing work
Must be proactive and able to self-initiate
Should possess effective communication skills
Should demonstrate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout facilities
Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, and climb at times.
