To do this role, you will need:

Sound experience of testing and investigating metals and materials

Strong technical analysis and analytic problem-solving skills (practical lab investigations and report writing)

Clear understanding of bearings, gears and other tribological component types

Good knowledge of wear and tear mechanisms of materials, corrosion, stress corrosion cracking (SCC) etc.

Good understanding of how engineering components, how they function, decline and fail.

Criteria to apply:

Bachelor’s / Master’s degree and 4+ years professional experience

Or PhD in a relevant field

Membership of a professional body would be beneficial
