Sustainability Manager
Job Purpose
This is an exciting role taking a key position in delivering against key sustainability metrics on fit-out and new build projects. Working towards meeting clients’ sustainability requirements you will need strong project management, communication and organisational skills. This will be to meet legal compliance, delivering best practice and achieving environmental assessments such as BREEAM/LEED/SKA and WELL.
Key Responsibilities
-Collate weekly site return data and disseminate information to the widerHSQE team.
-Supply KPI reports to clients.
-Raise awareness of sustainability and the Group’s Our Vision Strategy via both formal and informal training of staff
-Carry out general admin functions relating to sustainability requirements, (e.g.data management, answering calls and chasing the project teams for KPIdata).
-Support teams to meet client specific expectations and initiatives as required,such as BREEAM & Ska assessments, zero waste to Landfill and legal compliance and updates.
-Assist in the collation, analysis and reporting of data (such as waste volumes and utility use) to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets
-Undertake frequent visits to construction sites to assess compliance with the in-house environmental management system and make recommendations for improvement
-Coach employees in best practise and in the implementation of site waste management plans across the business.
-Manage, maintain, audit and review all systems and procedures to ensure company compliance to company policies and ISO accreditations.
-Support teams in liaising with Statutory and Advisory bodies.
-Provide support in the development of suitable environmental and sustainability policies and oversee the implementation of such policies.
-Undertake environmental auditing of business systems, sub-contractors and sites to ensure compliance and maximise best practise.
-Carry out environmental incident investigations and propose requirements for future improvements.
-Manage and deliver on the environmental and sustainable elements of pre–qualification and tender returns from across the business to ensure the returns are to the highest possible calibre.
-Develop and promote environmental awareness including waste management initiatives and CO₂ reduction plans across all teams to optimise best practise across the business. ·
-Keep up-to-date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practice guidelines and understand how they may affect the company
-Prepare guidance to assist project teams in managing sustainability
-Attend meetings with management to discuss sustainability performance
-Work as part of the Group’s Sustainability Forum to drive good practice and implement commitments
-Compile written reports on sustainability performance
Key Skills and Qualifications:
The right candidate will have 1-5 years’ experience of working within the construction industry
Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in an appropriate environmental discipline.
Experience of driving and assessing sustainability.
The ability to positively influence others.
Adaptable team player with good initiative and strong problem solving skills.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated with the ability to self-learn.
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
Excellent IT skills
Experience of delivering and organising training
The ability to work independently and manage their own workload
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet
