Manufacturing Engineer Objectives
This Manufacturing engineering role will be responsible for assisting Logistics with the launch of new products at the customer site. Play a key role in the design, selection, layout and delivery of parts based on a BoM supplied by the customer. Flawless build ramp-up through pre-production builds to SOP, planning and executing them appropriately. Manage product launch readiness with the customer to ensure deliverables are met to plan.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and will have the ability to establish and cultivate inter-personal relationships and participate with others in a fast-changing environment. There will be a lot of interaction with multiple stakeholders therefore the ability to influence and motivate stakeholders and team members to perform to their highest ability is essential. It is important to be assertive without being aggressive to ensure that timescales and deliverables are met, and decisions are made in a timely manner. Main duties Work closely with our client to design and select the appropriate delivery method of parts to meet the agreed takt time and synthetic time calculations.
Work closely with the Off-Shore engineering team to produce:
Specifications for in-house jigs and fixtures
Perform validation trials and feedback information to optimise Logistics area layout designs
Produce layout plans and operator training plans. When needed to purchase new equipment: liaise with machinery suppliers, produce detailed specifications and business cases, negotiate new machinery costs and present to the customer for approval. Oversee the Installation of equipment, perform risk assessments, write standard operating procedures, and train operators. Support the supply chain department in terms of analysis of supplier processes and make/buy calculations for comparing in-house manufacture with external solutions. Implement and handover a Continuous Improvement program once production has started to maximise capacity, quality, and efficiency. Ensure that processes are capable and stable. Produce impact analyses for the suggested layout designs, analysing the effects on the cost to manufacture. Perform verification trials and evaluate the ease and repeatability of the assembly of new and existing products. Ensure the highest quality throughout, minimise teething issues and faults through PFMEA and formal root-cause analysis investigations. Write SOPs and process flows. Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure that defects are minimised but are also recorded and acted upon. Ensure robust feedback loops between departments, and communicate lessons learnt once products are in production.
Skills and Requirements
Sound knowledge of production lines. A hands-on practical approach. Skilled in launching new product(s) within an established manufacturing environment. Technical knowledge of Lean principles and other manufacturing theories. Problem solving experience using Root Cause Analysis or DMAIC (Design, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control). Good communication skills and the ability to produce clear, precise work instructions. Knowledge and preferably hands on skills with simulation tools for throughput and/or ergonomics assessment - or experience in providing accurate inputs and conditions to facilitate simulations. Knowledge of high value and medium throughput manufacturing. Knowledge of HSE Safety and Ergonomics requirements in the workplace
