Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a number of Senior Mechanical Engineers/Mechanical Package Leads with a background in the nuclear or defence sector to be engaged on a long-term contract basis in the North West; this role is outside IR35 and candidate led with the hourly rate dependant on experience.
Your Day-to-Day:

Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the mechanical engineering discipline
Responsible for the development key design deliverables such as Design Proposal Drawings, Mechanical Flow Diagrams and Detailed Design Drawings. Checking and Approval of scoping and FEA calculations.
Ensure that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards.
Ensuring that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel.
Production of documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented
Preparing and reviewing quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
Ensure work delivered is within the defined scope and completed to time and budget.
Manage resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented and address commercial impacts.
Ensure designs are compliant with CDM regulations and have designer responsibility under CDM
Present Mechanical engineering designs to clients and key stakeholders who may be discipline experts or non-discipline related.
Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
Production and checking of safety related documents such as Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation / Justifications Report.
Mentor a team of engineers/designers to improve their own skill sets and enhance the company's capabilities
Develop and manage/maintain good working relationships with key counterparts in client or partner organisations
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
Chartered Member of the IMechE preferred
Minimum 8+ years' experience in nuclear industry or highly regulated industry and at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level
Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives and how they should be applied Proven knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques applicable to mechanical design.
Strong knowledge in the production of Technical Files for new products / plant and equipment
Must be legally eligible to work in the UK
