Job Opportunity: Principal Building Control Surveyor (Temporary)

Contract: Temporary, 3 Months
Possibility of Extension: Yes, based on performance
Pay Rate: £70.00 Per Hour (PAYE) or £78.00 Per Hour (Umbrella)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:00
Location: ST4 1RN

Job Purpose:

To support the directorate team to deliver high-quality professional Building Control service for Stoke-on-Trent City Council and partner authorities.
To support the team manager in having operational management responsibility for staff covering the Stoke-on-Trent City Council area, subject to the Strategic manager's guidance for statutory building regulation and associated advisory services for the city council and partner authorities including the exercise of delegated powers.
To deputise for the team manager as and when required.
To support the Team Manager in ensuring that the local authority fulfils its legal regulatory function, national minimum performance standards, and the authority's own objectives concerning the service area.
To support the Strategic Manager and Team Manager in developing plans, policies and procedures to deliver appropriate services to support the directorate's objectives.
To promote and develop a high-quality approach to how we deliver services.
To support the effective overall running of the directorate as a member of the senior leadership team within the directorate and by undertaking any other duties as required by the Strategic Manager.
To support the team manager and lead in securing, developing and managing lead authority agreements between the city council local and national companies and other building regulation providers
To secure additional work through the application of marketing and professional expertise by business plans.Key Responsibilities:

To support the Team Manager in being responsible for service delivery and developments within the specified services.
To work closely with the Team Manager team to agree on priorities of development and change
To promote and deliver transformational change to continuously improve services
To identify and ensure implementation of service improvements within the services to drive continuous performance improvements.
To support the team manager in managing the specified service area efficiently and effectively, delivering the agreed targets within budget and in line with best value principles.Qualifications and Experience:

Expert Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, and its application to the functions of the service area
Relevant technical qualifications such as a degree building surveying or a combination of qualifications and experience that demonstrates expert knowledge of the service areas' functions and responsibilities
An appropriate recognised date fire regulations qualification for high-rise buildings
Demonstrable experience in working with elected members in a constructive and politically sensitive manner, underpinned by a good knowledge of current local government issues.
