Assystem Energy & Infrastructure are actively looking to recruit for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join on a 6 + contracting basis at our head office in Blackburn.
Job title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Contract: Initial 6-month contract with the view to extend
Hours: 37 hours (flexible start and finish times)
In this role you will be responsible for -
To obtain, review and understand historical engineering data
To undertake and manage optioneering / trade off exercises to justify engineering decisions.
To understand engineering project requirements - converting this understanding into a series of preliminary engineering documents to describe the design, use and storage of containers.
To understand mechanical handling equipment requirements - converting this understanding into a series of preliminary engineering documents to describe the use and design of the necessary equipment.
To understand road trailer requirements - converting this understanding into a series of preliminary engineering documents to specify and describe a road trailer.
To accurately collate engineering information that supports the production of all engineering documentation.
To undertake and support checking of engineering output from others.
To undertake and support design reviews
Qualifications and experience required to apply for the role:
Must be available immediately or within 1 weeks notice
Experience of working within a highly regulated industry, preferably within the nuclear industry
Has undertaken nuclear safety training.
Can demonstrate previous management of design projects within the preliminary design phase.
Can demonstrate experience in the design of nuclear waste containers and storage.
Can demonstrate experience in the design of mechanical handling equipment used to move containers.
Can demonstrate experience in the specification and use of road trailers to transport radioactive waste.
Can demonstrate knowledge and experience of designing products that minimise decontamination requirements.
Can demonstrate knowledge and experience with designing products with minimised manufacturing costs.
Applicants will be required to attain a minimum level of SC security clearance, if not already security cleared to SC level.
