Our client, a leading global supplier for IT services, requires a Power Electronics Engineer/Electrical Engineer to be based in their client's office in Derby, UK.
This is fully onsite role.
This is a 6-Months temporary contract to start ASAP
Day rate: Competitative Market rate
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with supplier to develop and optimize power electronics systems for electric motor applications, including motor inverters, power supplies, motor controls, and associated sensors.
- Design, develop, and test power electronics circuits and control algorithms, ensuring their performance, efficiency, and compliance with safety requirements.
- Conduct detailed analysis and simulations to assess the behavior, efficiency, and thermal characteristics of power electronics systems under various operating conditions.
- Collaborate with the supplier's engineering team to define and refine the requirements, specifications, and interfaces for power electronics systems.
- Perform thorough validation and verification activities, including hardware testing, performance characterization, and troubleshooting.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts in power electronics design methodologies, simulation techniques, and validation procedures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate power electronics systems into the overall electric motor architecture, ensuring seamless operation and reliability.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in power electronics technology, industry standards, and best practices, applying them to enhance our electric motor systems.
Key Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 5 years, preferably 10 years, of extensive experience in power electronics design
- Proficiency in designing motor inverters, power supplies, and motor control systems, considering safety-critical requirements.
- Take part in development of Electrical propulsion system which involves Motor, Inverter and Control Electronics power electronic circuits through development and validation phases.
- A good knowledge of the most common converter topologies, both non-isolated and isolated.
- Experience with magnetics design and implementation
- Proficiency in using Spice simulators for switching converters analysis (ideally considering parasitic elements contribution when relevant): switching transients, stability analysis, etc
- Experience with diagnosis, debug and component, assembly and system level testing methodologies.
- Practical knowledge of advanced/resonant converter topologies and associated regulation schemes (both analog and digital)
- Familiarity with sensor technologies used in electric motor systems, such as position sensors, temperature sensors, and current sensors.
- Experience with analog sensors such as high voltage, and current sensing and resolvers
- Familiarity with power systems to meet creepage and clearances for operations up to 1000VDC.
- Qualification of systems to aerospace standards (eg, DO160), including EMC and environmental testing.
- Familiarity with reliability, risk, or safety analysis tools (DFMEA) and Fault Tolerance
- Deliver testing and validation activities to meet timescales and comply with aerospace standards and customer requirements.
- Ability to write technical documentation (eg, test and validation reports).
- Experience with simulation tools (PSIM, PLECS, exposure to MATLAB/Simulink) for power electronics circuit analysis and control algorithm development.
- Solid understanding of thermal management principles and considerations for power electronics in electric motor systems.
- Excellent team player with effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both internal and external engineering teams.
Desirable
- Knowledge on Magnetics Design, EMC/Filter design,
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations for electric motor systems, such as ISO 26262, CS-E, DO-254 and DO-178.
- Experience in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and system integration for power electronics and motor systems.
