OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
Our client is seeking an experienced workflow application developer to join the information technology department. The application developer will focus on utilizing business process management applications to streamline and enhance business workflow processes and solutions, including reviewing, analysing, and modifying existing software solutions, designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting newer applications and automated routines. Utilizing various technologies, programming tools and techniques you will solve operational problems, streamline business processes and help boost productivity. You will be an integral part of a very collaborative team supporting current applications, as well as future technology platforms that touch every part of our business, including actuarial, accounting/finance, agency management, annuity administration, compliance, and marketing.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or significant work experience commensurate with degree
Ongoing industry and technical education and training in best practices and use of technology to resolve business applications
Two to six years of related technical experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Understanding of insurance and/or financial service applications preferred
Demonstrated mathematics and algebra skills including the ability to solve complex formulas
Ability to translate concepts and information into written format and able to communicate complex concepts
Ability to identify tasks and dependencies in the creation of project plans
Works well in group problem solving situations

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Consults with user community, business analysts, and technical leads to analyze current business practices, requirements and needs.
Consults with other internal and external technical experts to identify root causes of problems and/or system defects and determine practical solutions to correct technical problems.
Gathers and documents information completely, accurately, and objectively before proposing solutions to business needs.
Creates and adheres to accurate work plans, estimates, and best practices for project assignments. Maintains complete documentation of project status including work in progress, work completed, and outstanding tasks.
Uses technical tools to complete the task and resolve the business need using the most appropriate technology tools and programming languages.
Stays abreast of changing technology and how technological advancements can be applied to business needs and applications.
Assists in the improvement and definition of department technical and design standards and development process. Uncovers and recommends best practices for use by the department.
Pursues opportunities to gain technical and business knowledge through education, certifications, and training.
Actively participates in the improvement of department policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
