The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for performing a thorough analysis of the mortgage loan file and ensures the files adhere to the current mortgage regulations and Credit Union policies/procedures. The Underwriter must examine loan documentation for accuracy and completeness and determine whether additional information is required to support the loan file. The Underwriter must use sound discretion during review in order to make final credit decision.
Knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines required.
Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet Credit Union and government standards.
Approves or rejects loan application or requests additional information.
Evaluates acceptability of loan to corporation that buys real estate loans on secondary mortgage markets (where existing mortgages are bought and sold by investors).
Assembles documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial, and returns file to originating mortgage loan department.
Records loan rejection, specifying investor and Credit Union guidelines and basis for declining application.
