Description of the work to be undertaken:
Success will require an effective and engaging communicator able to explain required approaches and action points to a range of
stakeholders from contracted industry delivery teams up to 1 & 2 * level civil servants. You'll need to be able to act as a trusted
advisor to our clients and their business stakeholders.
You'll need to be able to draw on previous experiences of Engineering Leadership roles both within industry and client side and
be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to Continuous Improvement and Learning from Experience.
Experience of successful Agile / Hybrid Agile implementation within the defence industry is a bonus.
Working with senior client stakeholders to understand required technical capabilities and timelines across related sets of large-scale Information Systems delivery programmes.
Provide a leadership role within the client-side team. Work with client-side functional leads to develop and action time bound organisational capability delivery increments.
Work with delivery project teams to identify opportunities to trial new ways of working. Identify lessons learned and feedback into approach
Provide outward facing support into Army HQ, Defence Digital and the Army end customer. Cohere approach with transformation activities running outside of immediate client-side delivery team.
Support effective technical decision making as required and present clear ways ahead for stakeholders. Seek to empower others (client team members and colleagues providing client-side support)
Help drive improvements in the operation of key delivery programmes to become 'architecturally led' and to benefit from System of Systems & service thinking.
Identify and safeguard commercially sensitive information to be retained client side only.
Skills required:
Experience of leading Enterprise-scale solution development or assessment within a defence context. Previous experience as a Design Authority in a complex Systems Engineering environment.
Practical experience of leading transformation programmes whether in industry or client side.
Ability to influence a diverse set of technical and non-technical stakeholders both face to face and in hybrid working scenarios.
Experience of being an advocate for both Engineering and change activity.
Knowledge of architecture methodologies, standards, frameworks and tools (preferably TOGAF/Archimate)
Experience in the application of ITIL in the MoD domain
Good awareness of Safety and Security Management practices in the MoD domain.
Hands on experience of configuration management & baseline development through lifecycle on complex programmes
Knowledge and understanding of Military Communications and Information Systems (CIS) and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems
Understanding of both the military customer and defence procurement.
Project and Programme management skills.
Domain relevant commercial awareness.
Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) (Desirable)
