HMS TECHNOLOGIES is seeking candidates to support a National Health (NIH) project to provide professional IT services to assist Information Technology Branch (ITB) in meeting its critical mission requirement to provide IT support and guidance to Office of Research Services (ORS) and Office of Research Facilities (ORF).

HMS Technologies is seeking a Senior Computer Systems Architect (Cloud) to join an IT project supporting government Information Technology (IT) Program Management and Support Services for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Information Technology Branch. The qualified candidate will have Strong IT Engineering, Architecture, and Cloud Technologies skills, be capable of designing and developing solutions to complex system and application problems, system administration issues, network concerns, and be able to perform systems management and integration functions, as well as cloud migrations. Familiarity with Government contract work is beneficial.

Position Responsibilities:

Design and develop solutions to complex applications problems, system administration issues, or network concerns. Perform systems management and integration functions requiring:

  • Prepare systems for successful migration from on-premise deployment to cloud deployment
  • Develop build and deployment methods to automate where applicable.
  • Configure environment for successful transition between development and operations
  • Participate in the requirements definition process to better understand the customer needs especially as it applies to DevOps
  • Decompose user stories into technical tasks
  • Contribute content for data flow diagrams, transition architecture diagrams, and high-level architecture diagrams on Cloud Infrastructure, applications, and systems
  • Create interface control documents, documenting the interfaces between systems
  • Ability to work with a blended team of system administrators, network administrators, 3rd party engineers and NIH staff to achieve solution objectives
  • Capable of rolling up the sleeves and working with cross organization personnel to deploy, configure, migrate and test enterprise solutions
  • Communicate technical concepts to stakeholders, and partnering system representation, to help find resolutions for problems that may arise as a result of the technical interfaces and functional dependencies
  • Create prototypes that demonstrate concepts

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Microsoft Azure/AWS Design, implementation and Administration
  • VMware Data Center Virtualization (DCV) Design or Deploy
  • Nutanix Platform Expert (NPX)
  • Demonstrated success as a Cloud Systems Architect, showing a track record of planning, designing, and implementing large application cloud migrations
  • Experience with modeling and modeling tools
  • Experience designing large systems with multiple internal and external interfaces using varied interface methods
  • Experience with designing and defining data standards for data elements, data flows and data transformation
  • Experience designing systems that comply with government security and privacy requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills with experience interfacing senior government officials
  • Experience developing and reviewing project documentation, such as System Design Documents


  • Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, engineering management, math, or similar technical discipline (7 years of experience may be substituted for education)
  • 10 Years experience as a Computer Systems/Cloud Engineer/Architect on government IT projects
  • Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management (ITIL) v3 or higher [Desired]
  • CompTIA Security+ Certified Professional [Desired]
  • High Public Trust Clearance or the ability to obtain it
