NMS DevOps Engineer required to work with a large Telco organisation. This is a 12 contract, paying £650 per day, inside IR35, hybrid working (2-3 days onsite per week at the Reading office)

Summary:
As an NMS DevOps Engineer, you will be crucial in planning and delivering against opportunities to right-size our Network Management Systems estate. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, software developers, and network operations, to ensure our NMS platform's stability, performance, and security. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring that Engineering teams have a low-friction, highly secure, highly available, cost-effective, and consistent NMS platform.

Main Responsibilities:
  • NMS Consolidation: You will lead on reviewing what consolidation and rationalisation opportunities are available in this area and will lead on efforts to deliver against these proposals
  • NMS Development: You will design and implement NMS to support the RAN, transport or Core Network evolution, including upgrades to existing NMS and migration projects between old and new NMS. You'll lead on delivery FCAPS functionality and in ensuring systems align to security principles.
  • NMS Design, Ops & Partner Management: You'll work closely with vendor teams on NMS offerings and Features and adapt them as needed in our business. Working in a DevOps squad you'll conduct design considering operational requirements teams whilst also supporting NMS operationally from a 2nd line perspective and liaising with 3rd line vendor support to resolve S/W bugs.
  • NMS Lifecycle Management: Undertake life cycle management activities for NMS including hardware, software, capacity and capability and operational support.
  • Monitoring and Alerting: Support the set up and configure monitoring and alerting systems to identify and resolve issues in the NMS environment proactively.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with Platform owners, Tech Leads, other DevOps engineers, and senior Innovation leaders to strike a balance between engineering priorities and platform objectives.
  • Help identify research, and implement new technologies that will enhance the platform while mentoring and teaching your colleagues.
  • Value: Leverage modern technologies as appropriate to get the most value out of existing NMS platform offerings and deliver additional value in the highest-priority areas.
  • Agile Adoption: Leverage agile principles to enable collaboration and innovation in the team and with stakeholders outside the team. Creating an environment that drives positive energy and a mentality to succeed
  • Working with Platform Owner(s): Providing challenges, ideas, and critique to the Platform owner for the services offered from the DevOps platform.
  • Security and Compliance: Collaborate with security teams to implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in NMS capabilities and infrastructure to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, software developers, and IT operations teams to ensure seamless integration of NMS into our network environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of NMS infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.

Essential Experience
  • Deep NMS design, management and operation
  • Good understanding of cloud technologies, security, and privacy principles.
  • Expert level technical understanding of Network Management Systems, general OSS, BSS as well as technologies including 2G, 3G, 4G, IMS and EPC.
  • Hands-on working experience of Ericsson Network Management and Nokia EMS systems.
  • Proven experience in either a design or operations NMS related role, extremely beneficial to have skills in both areas.
  • Self-organizing and ability to pick up the task independently and deliver with minimal guidance around NMS area.
  • Working knowledge of Lean and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience of similar role(s) within a complex Telco or IT environment
  • Experience of using Confluence, Jira and worked across related tools.
  • Experience of implementing CI/CD/CT pipelines, with a focus on building shared services across DevOps platforms in a secure fashion.
