Our client a Berkshire based software house are looking to recruit a Senior Software Engineer to join their talented and progressive organisation.

Your role will be key to the team as you will deliver specific allocated requirements as part of a wider deliverable while mentoring less experienced software engineers, including detailed designs, coding and unit testing of changes to their product. You will complete work items as part of a formal software development lifecycle (SDLC) and deliver software to high quality.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Software Engineer in this team, your role will include the following:

* Implementing new features and updating existing functionality in order to keep the products current and compliant

* Attend daily stand ups and partaking in sprint planning, retrospectives and reviews

* Responsibility for planning own work load from high level assignments and completing tasks to meet the agreed deadlines.

* Work with BA’s and Architects to contribute to the analysis of product requirements and translation of these into development estimates and technical specifications.

* Produce detail designs which are traceable to requirements in formal document repository.

* Working with QA’s in providing information necessary in the production of test plans as required

* Contributing to production of supporting documentation, both internally and externally

* Ensure design and code reviews are being completed for all tasks and that these are consistently following departmental guidelines. Actively ensure development standards are being upheld and changes made by less experience engineers are well thought out.

* Timely and accurate reporting of assigned work status as required by Team Leader/Manager. Reporting risks and issues as they arise.

* Encourage and facilitate collaboration with development team under supervision of Team Leader and direction of senior developers.

* Triage assigned software defects. Ensure that work on defect resolution does not impact on agreed product deliverables, reporting to team leader/manager where resolution will require renegotiation of deliverable dates for other tasks.

* Keep abreast of technology trends and how they apply to your area. Put forward suggestions for improvement to software or development process where applicable.

* Achieve agreed productivity targets in order to ensure development tasks are delivered within budget and to schedule. Reporting as early as possible to team lead/manager where deliverables cannot be met.

* Ensure adherence to internal software processes as required by team leader/manager

What skills and experience do you need to have?

We’re looking for someone innovative with the following skills and experience:

* Significant development experience as a Software Engineer

* Strong knowledge of C++ and preferably C# also

* Good knowledge of object-oriented design principles

* Experience of working in an Agile environment

* Ability to interpret acceptance criteria/requirements and implement accordingly

* Knowledge of relational databases and SQL

* Experience of WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) would be beneficial

* Ability to document requirements and specifications

* BSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field

* A good communicator with both immediate team and others around the business

* A good understanding of current software development technologies, how they can be applied and a clear understanding of the direction of the software industry
