Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Reporting to: Mobile Engineer Supervisor

Location: Scotland (Stirlingshire or Glasgow)

Hourly paid and guaranteed hours equivalent to: £26,500.00 - £30,000.00

Overview of role:

In this role, you will be working on site at customer locations to troubleshoot, maintain and repair smoke ventilation systems. After some on-the-job training, your technical, mechanical and electrical skills will be used on every visit across new and challenging situations, equipment and locations. You will be responsible for meeting the daily service maintenance and repair needs of our customers’ smoke ventilation equipment and establishing firm business relationships through the provision of excellent customer service.

Role dynamic:

The nature of the equipment we service and our commitment to a 4 hour customer call-out service on a 24/7 basis requires:

Availability on standby for emergency call out on a team rotation basis.

Work using high level machinery in excess of 30 metres in accordance with high level health and safety requirements.

Work at roof level using temporary fall arrest and restraint systems.

Work and travel to sites throughout the UK, with accommodation in hotels as necessary.

Attendance at customer sites at times that may be considered unsociable hours including some irregular hours and night work.

Work at weekends and out of hours based on customer requirements.

Main Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):

Attend customer sites to carry out the service of smoke ventilation plant equipment specified in the customer equipment register.

Identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems for most types of installation, maintenance and repair situations on smoke ventilation equipment.

Disassemble and reassemble controls and smoke ventilation equipment to repair or replace worn or malfunctioning components and consumables.

Provide accurate and detailed service reports and certifications to enable accurate invoicing and job cost tracking; highlighting any product, systems and access platform information in accordance with company specifications and procedures.

Provide technical support to customers and end users when applicable and seek technical guidance from more experienced colleagues and Supervisors for difficult and unusual situations.

Undertake preventative maintenance and field modifications using company service specifications and ensuring regulatory requirements are met.

Ensure that customer equipment is accurately identified for asset recording purposes on each and every site visit and ensure details are logged on all service reports.

Work in a health and safety conscious manner at all times. Complete and submit a dynamic risk assessment prior to all works commencing and keep the Health and Safety Manager informed of all concerns.

Present a professional image of Kingspan Airvent in appearance and behaviour and act as a ‘customer service role model’ at all times.

Identify opportunities to promote the services offered by Kingspan Airvent such as new contracts, contract renewals, cross-selling and system sales.

Maintain customer service and administrative logs and internal service records accurately and in a timely manner.

Represent Kingspan Airvent professionally whilst driving and in the community by following the laws and rules of the road and local parking requirements. Carry out weekly vehicle checks to ensure it is safe, mechanically sound and clean. Ensure satisfactory levels of van stock at all times.

Maintain tools and test equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration at all times, taking suitable precautions to avoid loss or theft.

Remove and dispose of electrical and oil laden materials and prepare / submit certification for the disposal of waste materials in accordance with environmental procedures and company requirements.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested from time to time.

Person Specification


Minimum 3 years’ service engineering experience/Essential

Minimum GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent/Essential

Fully qualified electrician with an electronic/electrical engineering or electro-technology apprenticeship to a minimum of 4 years or suitably trained through BTEC or City & Guild’s 2365 level 2/3 or equivalent/Essential

Solid technical skills and experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electromechanical, and/or electronic equipment/Essential

Self-starter, able to work well independently and with general supervision/Essential

Proficient computer skills with a good understanding of Microsoft Word/Excel, Navision or equivalent/Essential

Proven record of being reliable and accountable for all aspects of their job/Essential

A valid driver’s license and good driving record (maximum 6 points)/Essential

Able to manage multiple tasks, working accurately with attention to detail and meeting deadlines/Essential

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills/Essential

Working knowledge of health and safety regulations/Essential
