Role Profile:

The role of the Principal Security Engineer within ICT Team is to be the Security Technical Design Authority for highly complex technical design or service issues that cannot be resolved through the normal operations and maintenance procedures and provide leadership for root cause analysis.

The Principal Security Engineer will also support Computer Security Incident Response team (CSIRT) teams in Incident response.

He/she will also provide input into Security Working groups which will typically involve technical presentations, solution demonstrations, solution design/configuration, proposal for ICT programmes etc.

There will also be a requirement to produce an IT Health check on perimeter and internal defences

We'd be delighted to hear from you if you have the following skills/experience:

Act as Security Technical Design Authority (TDA) for network, perimeter security defence systems which fall within the responsibility of ICT.

Define requirements for Suppliers, ensuring the proposal and deliverable meets the needs of the Business.

Capable of acting as a 4th line technical lead to resolves technical problems, either design or support related problems to support or lead suppliers. To take a lead where required in root cause analysis to drive issue resolution and limit impact within ICT infrastructure \ estate.

Ability to provide security oversight for transformation programmes in all areas of ICT, such as O365 and Microsoft Modern Workplace

Act as an internal technical escalation point for security issues and to be able to mentor/coach internal resources to achieve a higher level of service & security awareness.

Implement & maintain detailed design documents for the network, perimeter and estate where applicable within sphere as TDA.

Assist ICT teams & CTO office with the validation of new products, software and services.

To provide expert consultative support during major software upgrades.

To support performance related issues if required.

To assist in the design of Proof of Concept scenarios, Type Approval activities in the telent lab and demo facilities. To help in the creation of test type documentation and test scenarios.

To attend, as required, the following meetings, support reviews, project reviews, monthly service reviews, weekly incident reviews, Security Working Group (forums).

Maintain & administer corporate firewalls and boundary defences.

Maintain security policies, procedure as defined and derived from ICT.

Ensure solution are delivered that Support and maintain network, perimeter configuration in accordance with NCSC guidelines and initiatives along with programmes such as Cyber Essentials.

Business Operations Skills - Experience:

High documentation standard

Strong knowledge & understanding of, & experience in, IT security

Appreciation of trends in IT security

Knowledge and understanding of the current and developing strategic information requirements of a Technology Services business

Knowledge of current trends and developments in information technology

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Skill in organising resources and establishing priorities

Proven team player

Strong technical background / understanding

Must be strong to steer on regulatory, compliance matters

CCIE - Security

Design & Operational experience

In depth knowledge on firewalls, IDS, IPS and Encryption. Product experience ideally covering Juniper Cisco ASA and PaloAlto firewalls and Bluecoat devices with Checkpoint experience being an added benefit

Exposure to SIEM platforms,

Candidates must have High Level and Low Level Design experience

Candidates must have Networking and security experience

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to deliver technical information in a clear and concise manner and comfortable with customer interface
