Java Software Development Engineer - Financial Services

We are a technology focused retailer hiring Java Engineers at our Milton Keynes HQ. You will be working in one of our autonomous Scrum teams creating Spring Boot Microservices, alongside front-end Javascript/React developers.

Argos Financial Services help to make products affordable for Argos customers through the provision of credit. We offer a range of credit plans to help customers to buy now and pay later. We also help customers to protect what matters most to them through our product warranties and pet insurance offerings. Argos Product Care gives customers peace of mind through breakdown and accidental damage cover on a wide range of products including electrical items, furniture and jewellery. We also offer Argos Card customers our award winning My Argos Card App, which enables customers to manage their account, receive rewards and make payments. We are looking to hire an established back-end engineer to work on these financial services applications to design and build our technology roadmap and take responsibility for delivery of an end-to-end services that affect our customers directly and ultimately our reputation and brand.

Typical Technologies in our stack for this role:
Java 8, Spring Boot, Redis, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Docker & Kafka in a micro services architecture running on a mixture of AWS and on-prem, deployed to Mesos/Marathon. We keep track of everything using Git, Jira & Confluence and use the full SCRUM cycle.

Challenges we're excited about tackling:

Earlier this year, we launched credit plans microservices and replaced legacy credit plan feeds. This has established a better foundation for our credit offerings and we are now working towards allowing a greater range of credit options to our customers. The current WCS infrastructure of credit application processing will be replaced by a micro service architecture that can scale out some of those components on-demand to meet business and customer needs with improved customer experience. We are working hard on replacing some of the legacy product care processes which will enable our business to provide better product care offering to customers.

We are looking for people with:

· Solid Java engineering and coding skills

· Good understanding of microservice concepts

· Experience integrating with webservices and API's

· Strong will to learn and use new technologies

· Experience working on microservices architectures

· Working as a lead developer in guiding and helping the team


· Java 8

· Kafka

· Spring Boot

· Rest/JSON API endpoints

· Scala

· Python

· Dynamodb/ PostgreSQL/NoSQL databases

· Git Framework

· Agile Methodology

Nice to have:

· Has worked on Integration projects before

· Very good communication skills

· Driving meetings

Working environment:

Occasional travel to UK Customer Management Centres to work with agents and customers plus team events with other tech colleagues in London.
