Role Purpose:

Incumbent is responsible for the personnel management of all subordinates; overseeing workload distribution and completion; assisting in development of policies and procedures; education of health care personnel; Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance monitoring; selection and application of medical equipment to be employed; and integration of all departmental functions. Work and on-call schedules are determined by the needs of the department and overtime may be required.
  • Oversee shift report and shift management processes for work distributed and completed. Ensure all work accomplished is documented on all Department/Patient records and is charged for in accordance with department policy. Monitor prescription compliance and "missed/refused treatment" rates for all personnel in an ongoing fashion in accordance with departmental Quality & Service Indicator. Input required data into computerized shift management tools.
  • Ensure adherence to staffing effectiveness plan. Prepare shift work assignments for all subordinates utilizing computerized tool and monitor workload to ensure adequate staffing patterns per each shift. Consistently implement "Reduction of Staff" protocols; actively participate in rotational "Call Duty" and staffing initiatives. Assist in preparation of work schedules.
  • Monitor performance of subordinates, make patient rounds frequently, troubleshoot problems encountered, and ensure compliance by all subordinates to all hospital/departmental policies and procedures. Ensure immediate response to urgent or STAT care needs in accordance with departmental Quality & Service Indicator. Initiate appropriate prescription modification for patient progress reported. Ensure safety and security of medication administration by personnel through use of PYXIS and pharmacy oversight/review processes.
  • Assist Manager of Respiratory Care in assessing the educational needs of the department as well as the organization; participate in education plan development, construct educational opportunities for personnel, and present identified learning needs. Act as educational resource to medical/nursing staff and be available for consultation.
  • Respond to and direct subordinates responses to all drills or Hospital Alert procedures such as Code Emergencies, etc. Assist staff with difficult or unmanageable patients; contact medical staff on behalf of patients/subordinates as necessary to ensure efficacy/efficiency of respiratory care modalities.
  • In collaboration with management, prepare/execute consistent disciplinary action among subordinates. Evaluate work performance of all subordinates and make recommendations for appropriate promotional/disciplinary actions to management.
  • Initiate delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing Respiratory Care services including adherence to therapist driven and departmental protocols for patient populations served. Maintain mastery level skills designated in job descriptions of all subordinates. If applicable, adeptly institute mechanical ventilation invasively and non-invasively for continuous use and monitor patient requiring such. Perform detailed and accurate assessment of patients. Recommend/perform parameter adjustments to optimize ventilation/oxygenation. "Wean" patient from ventilation; assess tolerance; reduce work of breathing by applying enhancement techniques.
  • Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP/RC) by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Current registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the NBRC.
  • 2 years of respiratory care experience.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification must be obtained within six months of employment in this position.
  • Current CPR (Healthcare Provider).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within six months of employment in this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in respiratory care preferred.
