The Charge Nurse directs patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Frankfort Regional Medical Center and professional organizations and in support of the mission of Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Care is provided in a patient and family centered environment. The Charge Nurse is responsible for assigning patients to and monitoring the work of nurses within the unit on assigned shift and to assist the Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor in the supervision of assigned employees on the shift. The Charge Nurse is the first level of administration assigned to the unit in the absence of the Nursing Director/Manager and Clinical Coordinator/Supervisor. The position may also carry a patient load and applies the nursing process to deliver basic, safe, therapeutic care, for individuals or groups of patients. The Charge Nurse is assigned to a designated clinical area to assist in assuring a patient/family focused environment. Key role responsibilities include: coordinating patient throughput, demonstrating high standards of quality patient care, holding care providers accountable to clinical and service standards. Demonstrates and coaches others to utilize critical thinking skills.

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licensure/Certifications: Must hold a current license from the Kentucky Board of Nursing. BLS required upon hire and ACLS within six months of hire. PCCN within 1 year of eligibility is preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of previous charge experience preferred. Prior experience in a similar size facility with similar services provided is preferred. Previous emergency, pre-hospital or Progressive Care preferred. The charge nurse should have the ability to carry out all responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner. Demonstrates expertise in area of clinical specialization. Excellent communication (verbal, written), interpersonal, organizational, leadership, exceptional interpersonal relations and problem solving skills required.
