Position Description

Manages patient care of an assigned group of patients within a new Medical Surgical Neuro floor in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the appropriate division. Nurses at Northside are professionals committed to patients, families and all members of the Healthcare team. Our nursing practice reflects the values of collaboration, communication, coordination, integration, and empowerment.

We are a primary stroke center, certified by joint commission, so we see stroke patients, in addition to traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, seizures, aneurysm, and altered mental status.

Other general medical conditions frequently seen include, cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal and endocrine disorders, as well as infectious disease. We also see back, neck and spine surgical patients, as well as facial surgery patients, craniotomy and other neuro-surgeries.

Position Requirements


Knowledge Skills and Abilities/ License or Certification Required:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in skills applicable to designated area within probationary period.
  • Certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

In addition to the above, the following is preferred for departments listed below:

Renal Dialysis:

  • One (1) year experience in critical care or hemodialysis.

Special Care Nurseries:

  • Completion of the American Heart Association Resuscitation course.

Family-Centered Care-Admissions Team:

  • Two (2) years nursery/NICU experience or 4 years Mother/Baby experience.
  • NRP mandatory.


  • Completion of Critical Care and Basic Arrhythmia course.
  • ACLS certification.


  • ACLS certification must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire date.
  • Two (2) years experience in medical-surgical nursing or related area with at least one (1) year experience involving the treatment of cardiac/critical care patients or previous radiology experience.
  • PALS is required of Radiology Nurses working in the Alpharetta Pediatric Imaging facility and is preferred but not required for all other Radiology nurses
  • For the Breast Care Center locations - BCLS requirement only.

Surgical Services:

  • Operating Room: Prior Operating Room experience or completion of a course in Operating Room nursing.
  • PACU: Prior PACU or ICU experience or completion of a course in Post-Anesthesia Care nursing.
  • Current ACLS Certification required.

Cath Lab Admission/Recovery Unit (ARU)-Forsyth:

  • Critical Care experience (preferred).
  • Current ACLS (required).

Cardiology -Forsyth:

  • Critical Care experience (preferred).
  • Current ACLS (required).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/ License or Certification Required:

  • National certification in specialty area.
  • Cancer Center (Radiation Oncology ACLS certification and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).

License/Certification Requirements: Yes
