GRS Actuarial is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) group. The primary responsibility for the role will be to support the business units by leading the GRS Capital Applications and leveraging outputs from the Economic Capital Model (ECM). Key deliverables will be to allocate total GRS capital down to class in support of the GRS planning process, maintain the steady-state return-on-equity (ROE) model, support the business units (BU) pricing efforts by working with BU actuaries to develop target combined ratios, and help optimize the GRS portfolio by evaluating the performance of each GRS class and presenting those results to GRS senior management. This position offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally and influence senior managements strategic decision making. The ideal candidate will have high initiative to solve problems creatively, have a strong drive to take ownership, and strong interpersonal skills to work as part of a team.


  • Maintain and develop steady-state return on equity (SS ROE) model

  • Work with regional actuaries to provide training on SS ROE model and incorporate model into pricing

  • Maintain and continuously improve process of allocating capital internally in support or planning

  • Lead efforts to identify and implement performance ranking measures with business unit leaders across GRS

  • Maintain and develop working mortgage insurance deal-evaluation model

  • Support GRS ERM efforts by providing mortgage insurance insights and determining target steady-state rate need based on the SS ROE model

  • Implement timely and practical solutions to complex problems

  • Lead or participate on cross-SBU efforts on risk modelling

  • Manage a team of 1 to 3


  • ACAS or equivalent required

  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, or Economics required.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong analytical skills with understanding of core actuarial methods and technique

  • Ability to build complex models

  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to adapt to changing needs

  • Experience with financial modelling and forecasting

  • Strong communicator with ability to influence others

  • Ability to balance multiple initiatives and prioritize incoming requests

  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to all levels of management

  • Comfort with solving new problems and generating new ideas
