IronHealth is seeking an SVP for its Senior Management team with broad experience in Programs and Miscellaneous Medical Facilities business. We are seeking an experienced senior programs leader in the medical professional liability (medical malpractice) and general liability area. IronHealth coordinates programs in a number of healthcare provider areas, including allied health, home health, chiropractors, midwives and psychiatry and Miscellaneous Programs in over 75 outpatient classes. We foster underwriter judgment and emphasize local decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity for a hardworking underwriter with Programs, miscellaneous medical professional and management expertise, confidence, relationship-building and deal orientation. The ideal person has advanced knowledge in the arena of Programs and Miscellaneous medical professional liability with 15+ years of programs and medical malpractice or related experience, strong industry contacts and the ability to lead a team of experienced underwriters. Candidate must be a self-starter and able to contribute to the advancement of the book and the team.
This position has full responsibility for the P&L of the Programs & Miscellaneous Medical Facilities product line, is a critical contributor the IronHealth Senior Management team and reports directly to the President of IronHealth.
The person in this position will be experienced in dealing with this highly technical line of business and its specialized brokers, claims and risk management.
Grows the Programs and Miscellaneous Medical Facilities books, while balancing the P&L of the line.
Leads and develops a team of highly skilled underwriters. Recruits, trains and mentors new staff as necessary.
Manages the business strategy and plan for the lines
Builds new or modified offerings to the industry
Seeks out referrals for new and renewal business for accounts
Develops and maintains highly effective business relationships with Program Administrators, brokers and agents in order to attract, develop/grow and retain profitable business.
Audit and analyze the selection, quoting, and issuance of new and renewal business to determine if it is in accordance with current underwriting guidelines.
Identify and develop trusted adviser relationships with clients in a variety of program areas including Medical Professional Liability, Managed Care, Custom Accounts, Life Sciences, Stop Loss and Regulatory Risks.
Lead all aspects of onboarding program engagement from planning, communications, resources, risks and issues.
Communicates and collaborates across the organization - such as Claims, Product Management, Actuarial, Distribution, and Production - to provide solutions/recommendations and achieve organizational success.
Provide leadership, support and mentorship to the underwriting team and ensuring the team aligns with the goals, objectives and standards of IronShore.
Achieves operational objectives by contributing recommendations to senior management involving customer service standards, completing audits, determining system improvements and implementing change.
The individual hired for this position must have a solid market reputation with the ability to effectively interact with Program Administrators, brokers and internal departments at all levels in the organization.
At least 10 years of managerial experience over underwriting staff.
The ideal candidate is a highly knowledgeable and disciplined Program Underwriter with experience managing Program risks across multiple risk classes, and with a track record of growing a book of business that performs well over the long term.
Excellent knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, contracts and underwriting guidelines required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent training with 15+ years of relevant and progressively more responsible production underwriting experience within the specialty focus of medical malpractice are necessary
Strong communication and influencing skills to build immediate credibility, both internally and externally; an ability to present effectively to a wide range of audiences; attention to detail is critical.
Ability to negotiate skillfully in tough situations
