Role Profile:

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner - Transport, the Management Accountant will work as part of the Transport Finance team providing project reporting, analysis and support to the ITS, SCADA and Central organisations. The candidate needs to be confident in discussing project issues with finance & non-finance staff alike.

Typical Deliverables:

  • Providing support for all financial aspects of an end to end business unit, working closely with the Finance Business Partner, ITS Project Director and SCADA Project Director.
  • Production of accurate and timely financial information monthly - mainly project profit and loss accounts, revenue recognition, forecasts, accruals, wip and reconciliation of project costs within Oracle
  • Liaise with project and business managers to ensure robust financial controls to track and identify project costs, their correct allocation and presentation in financial reports eg contract reviews, OSM reviews etc produced by PM, reviewed by MA
  • Month end procedures including sales accruals, journals, over/under overhead recovery analysis, orderbook
  • Production of P&L monthly latest view, forecasts and annual budgets. Understand variances to prior forecast, budget and prior year. Understand H1 v H2. Produce balance sheet forecast and budget. Submit P&L & Balance Sheet into Hyperion
  • Financial reporting - OSM, P&L month, YTD & full year commentary, Causals (fcst v prior year and fcst v bdgt), Opportunities & Vulnerabilities
  • Provide financial support into Bids and Tenders.
  • Monthly review of existing contracts and their performance, including challenging their at completion project forecast (revenue and costs)
  • Balance sheet reviews
  • Invoicing & cash forecasts
  • Identify and improve financial processes to ensure effective information is provided to aid decision making and improve business performance as well as improving financial reporting and control
  • Rates - annually or ad-hoc as required. Produced as part of budget process. Communicate out to relevant stakeholders. Understand variances to prior year & understand residual over/under-recovery
  • Liaising with external auditors and addressing queries
  • Sales bonuses - calculate & gain approval
  • Management of 2 members of staff
  • Ad - hoc requests

  • Qualified Accountant or qualified by experience
  • Minimum 5 GCSE's grade A-C with at least B in Mathematics
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Pro-active and self-directed
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually.
  • A desire to drive changes based on developing creative and innovative alternatives.
  • Prepared to challenge the status quo, and a demonstrated ability to overcome change resistance
  • Demonstrates strong influencing skills
  • A high level of energy and willingness to work under pressure.
