We are working on behalf of our highly regarded public sector client who require a Project and Costing Accountant.

This role attracts a Daily Rate up to £399, and is based in Glasgow city centre, with occasional travel across Glasgow and Edinburgh in line with project needs. The hours of work will be 37 per week, on Monday to Friday basis.

A basic disclosure Scotland certificate issued within the last 12 months is a requirement for this role.

This requirement has been categorised as inside IR35.

Following the Scotland Act 2016 social security benefits are being devolved. This post will form a part of the Social Security Scotland Finance team. This role will work closely with the Social Security Programme and Agency colleagues to provide financial support to projects.

Responsibilities will include:

Providing financial advice and support to non-finance colleagues who are initiating and leading on projects,

Creating a costing model that identifies relevant costs for decision making and future budget allocation

Identify and manage risks, ensuring they are reported and managed.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of the long term Financial plan

Work flexibly across the finance team to ensure all business priorities are met

Provide support to other members of the team


Your professional skills and experience will allow you to navigate audit and accounting requirements in relation to a high profile programme of work, and develop these in practice. You will be confident in generating, identifying, interrogating and assessing appropriate financial data to support decision making, assuring appropriate accountability and value for public funds

Evaluate relevant evidence, assessing its validity and forming a judgement of its usefulness in supporting your work.

Use effective leadership skills to be able to deliver results, promote collaborative working, and make connections across subject boundaries.

Demonstrate how they can provide clear direction to navigate complex issues and competing perspectives at different levels, internally and externally

Essential Criteria

Professionally qualified accountant - CCAB/CIMA professional accountancy body or equivalent with up to date CPD

Experience of working in a Project environment

Experience of building a costing model

Proven ability to work on your own initiative, to deliver high quality outcomes and outputs and to meet deadlines whilst managing competing pressures.

Strong communication & leadership skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to explain financial information effectively to non-finance stakeholders and to influence change
