Senior Estimator (Mechanical)

Based Warrington or Leeds

Responsible for leading all aspects of estimate preparation including accurate quantification using standard methods of measurement, bottom up estimating using industry & company production norms, enquiry preparation, quotation analysis and the preparation of commercial submission documentation. Following the submission of the tender, negotiate and record all changes to the tender price. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for handing over successful tenders to the delivery team in a manner that enables the team to understand the commercial submission, tender allowances, risks and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

* Attend project start-up meetings and make site visits

* Produce enquiry schedules for scope of works & packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued

* Identify tender deliverables required from the Project Designers

* Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary enters into correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements

* Prepares Bill of Quantities to appropriate methods of measurement

* Prepares bottom up estimate using industry/ company norms on an estimating system (Candy)

Skills/Experience:

* Proven experience in an estimating position

* Understanding of mechanical estimating; Pipe handling, welding, NDT, testing, norms etc.

* Site experience on projects

* Understanding of the pipeline construction industry

* Proven successful estimating experience in engineering, including undertaking role of an estimator

* Working in a Joint Venture, Frameworks, Target Cost, Fixed Price, Re-measurable Contracts

* Extensive variety in types of work priced

* Oil & Gas Process environments

* Proficient experience with Candy (Construction Estimating Software and Primavera P6 (Project Planning Software)

* Carry out analysis of all available data to arrive at viable options and organising information to identify the key issues and plan appropriately

* Connects own team / department actions with commercial benefit; sees long term customer relationships and gives consideration to partnering

* Rigorous views of new events / situations and sees change as opportunity; using it to focus and make improvements to organisation by involving and persuading others to the benefits of change

* Desire to improve self / others performance, taking a creative approach to develop new responses to changing business conditions

* Assimilation of large amounts of complex data; assessing risks and gains against business criteria to generate sound commercial answers
