Android Developer (Java, Kotlin) - Bristol
Posted on Aug 1, 2019 by CV-Library
It's no secret that almost everything is done by mobile these days, which is exciting for Android developers - it almost means you need to keep up with the latest technologies in order to keep up with app updates (which seem to be never ending).
If you are a Bristol based Android developer looking for a change, I have an opportunity working with one of the most accredited names within finance. Although they are a huge company, they work hard to maintain a relaxed working atmosphere with things like flexi working, one day remote per week, lots of tech and social events and a clear career path plans for each employee - they want to set you up to succeed and become the best you can be.
To be successful you will have a minimum of 18+ months experience working with Android within a commercial environment, have skills in Java and would have either dabbled with Kotlin or worked on personal projects in your spare time - you will need to evidence that you can work with it and are willing to learn it even more.
With over 250,000 users - could there ever be a dull moment? It will be challenging and hard work, but who doesn't love a challenge and especially once you're working with such an amazing team? You'll be supported by a team of talented techies, working together to make something great, they follow a highly agile structure and are broken down into 'squad' style teams - sounds cool right?!
Don't let the Kotlin part scare you off (they understand its new, so even if you have a small amount of commercial experience with it you will still be considered, they have a team of experts who can help you)
Picture this… you'll be presenting a new app update at the end of every sprint - that means a lot of updates, following latest trends and having something to be proud of and show to your colleagues on the regular.
The skills you'll need:
A background in Native mobile app development (Android, Java + Kotlin)
Good understanding of version control tooling (Git, BitBucket)
Web API usage and protocols
Passion for keeping up to date with the latest Android trends (they wants enthusiasts!)
A wiz with problem solvingWhat will I be doing?
Developing brand new user-facing features in the app + adding updates
You'll be releasing a new version of the app at the end of every sprint (And there I was wondering why I have so many Appstore updates every week)
Generally helping to optimise their software development life cycle
It's safe to say that we all know how much Kotlin has been on the rise for quite some time now, if you're an Android developer and haven't heard of it then… well, need I continue? The benefits of Kotlin are that you can use it with almost every library and create a Hybrid, you can also run older version of the JVM which is why is works so well with Android! With a language written by 'JetBrains', the integration with IDEA is said by some to be 'perfect' so that you can convert between it and Java with the click of a button…
Whether you've been working with Kotlin commercially for 6 months or less (or just at all), they appreciate it's new but want someone who is going to be able to understand it and progress.
If this sounds like it's right up your street, then apply today and I will be in touch
