POSITION: SMT Process Engineer

SALARY: £25,000 - £35,000 p/a

BENEFITS: Company Pension, Health cash back scheme after 3 month probationary period / Flexi-hour scheme, 23 days holiday + Bank Holidays

HOURS: 8am – 4.30pm



Our client is a specialist Contract Electronics Manufacturer, serving world-class customers in high-reliability industries by providing a complete set of electronics design and manufacturing solutions in both printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and full box-build manufacturing.

Due to continued success the company is seeking to recruit an SMT Process Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity for proactive and hardworking individuals to join the busy and fast-paced Engineering Team.

Experience is desirable.


To be responsible for overseeing the SMT and automated production lines and carrying out Surface Mount Technology (SMT), and Conventional Assembly activities to quality and industry standards.


Liaising with Manager / Supervisor with regard to day to day activities of assembly lines

Supporting the Manager / Supervisor in leading and supervising a team including: ensuring the team complies with all applicable policies, procedures and paperwork e.g. IPC, checking route cards etc; being the main communication point between employees and management; regularly communicating tasks, priorities and achievements; providing support, training and buddying as required; being a role model for performance and conduct; providing assistance with reviews; dealing with T&A issues; ensuring required Security Clearance level

Reviewing production documentation, supporting the contract review and bid process Using written work instructions and items lists to assemble products to customer specifications and IPC-J-STD-001 Class 3 as directed

Liaising with Quality and Engineering on line queries

Supporting daily activities of SMT and Automated Conventional with particular regard to continuous improvement and staff training and development

Responsible for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of all related manufacturing equipment & processes required to manufacture a high quality product in a repeatable and cost effective manner

Drive improvements in all related manufacturing processes, including those related to products, equipment, human interface, and product quality.

Responsible for maintaining and improving factory processes and related metrics, such as production efficiency, cycle times, capacity, capabilities, and others as needed.

Corrective action analysis, process troubleshooting, and new process development/qualification.

Provides ongoing product and process improvements to meet quality, CPI, CI, and production goals

Through partnerships with the production personnel, the Process Engineer will provide technical support for all critical process and product issues, resolution as well as technical direction to the production staff.

Supports document control activities to ensure documentation is correct and completeness is available for all product builds and process operations

Provides “on the floor” technical support as required for critical process and product issues

Support new product introduction and development


Role Specification

Experience in SMT and Through-hole manufacturing processes, solder reflow processes as well as an understanding in electronic product introduction and development

Computer literate with some experience of computer programming

IPC experience desirable

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Good communication skills

Proactive and flexible approach

Must be a problem solver and combine their technical knowledge with that of human capabilities and operational limitations
