Linux Developer - Permanent

Job Purpose

To achieve the department objectives in line with the corporate strategy and vision for which the job holder is directly responsible and continuously improves performance.

Main Responsibilities

Develop reliable, mission -critical software for the emergency services in a small team.

  • Specify, design, and build extendible code to be used in mission-critical applications for 10+ year lifespan.
  • Support and maintain new and existing software throughout its lifespan

Essential

  • Commercial C/C++ development experience (Unix/POSIX API, open source, GNU toolchain) - 3 years approx. experience
  • Proficient with Git and Subversion source control
  • Familiar with day to day Linux usage (Bash command line & utilities)

Beneficial

  • Linux set up and administration experience (particularly network configuration & Firewalls)
  • Familiarity with Devuan Linux distribution
  • Experience of MySQL/PostgreSQL, Node.js, Nginx
  • Experience in Embedded systems development and low-level hardware integration
  • Experience in Linux Kernel/Linux driver development
  • Experience with limited-bandwidth communications protocols

Working Environment

  • Flexitime working hours. Employees are expected to work 37.5 hours in a 5 day week with a total core hours of 26.5 hours and an additional 11 hours of flexitime
