Interim Commercial Director (Digital and Technology Sourcing)

This role is suitable for somebody who has good contacts and relationships with IT Technology Vendors and can select them having had previous experience with them. So this is not Category Management, nor programme management, more sourcing, knowing the best sources, vendors, partners etc. and negotiating the best outcomes for the company.

There is a small team of procurement specialists to manage.

You need deep experience of:

  • Managing relationships with large Technology vendors (contracts worth £50M+), both on the service and software spaces, in complex and growing organisations with complex technical requirements to achieve the best value from its supplier base. Including supplier negotiations and supplier performance improvement efforts.
  • Proven track record of effective relationship management with suppliers and customers.
  • Negotiating high value and complex commercial agreements and
  • Overseeing contract changes for the largest vendors in conjunction with procurement teams where appropriate and ensure that these represent Clients best interests.
  • Managing the contract and vendor management risk register, ensuring that an approach is in place to mitigate key supplier-related risks.
  • Managing and working with multi-skilled teams, in particular within the Commercial function.
  • Working with and influencing senior stakeholders directly, including managing conflict situations and competing stakeholder demands.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of dedicated Digital and Tech contract and vendor managers. providing strategic direction (eg, regarding how we can better leverage existing suppliers), setting quality standards, and ensuring that all contract and vendor management activities are being performed effectively and efficiently.
  • Managing the contract and vendor management budget

This role is to refine current delivery models, enhance service and better engage with services provided across the Digital, Data and Technology market. For example, the balance between internal and external, the bundling of services, and the way the company packages activities.
The Commercial team is responsible for designing, developing, managing and evolving the full range of Digital, Data and Technology commercial activities across the organisation. This will include Digital and Technology Commercial Strategy, supplier and vendor Management, contract management and commercial performance management.
For the avoidance of any confusion, this role will not be accountable or responsible for discharging procurement activities (eg completing competitive processes). This will be undertaken by the existing procurement team.
Additionally extensive experience with Government Procurement Policies and/or familiarity with Government/Crown Commercial Services frameworks, their applications and utilisation would be beneficial.

This is initially a 6-month Interim role, hybrid 2 days a week in the office ( London, Glasgow or Cardiff) and is Inside IR35.
