The FLI Group ( ) is an integrated environmental services and solutions company headquartered in Waterford and with operations in Ireland and the UK.
Subsidiary companies Vertase FLI Limited, FLI Water Limited, FLI QDS Limited, FLI Precast Solutions Limited and FLI Cap Technology & Adamelia are active in contaminated land remediation, municipal and industrial water & wastewater process and treatment solutions, off-site precast concrete design and manufacturing, and gelatine recovery and processing solutions.
With circa 250 employees, the Group has an excellent track record in delivering large and complex solutions to clients throughout the world since 1989.
2. Job Summary/Objectives:
This is a senior position and the successful candidate will join the Group Executive Leadership Team and will report to the Group CEO (who is based in Waterford).
The Group Sustainability Manager will have key responsibility for:
a) developing, implementing, and overseeing sustainability initiatives within the Group businesses b) assessing and improving the Group's environmental, social, and economic impact , and c) engaging with stakeholders, setting sustainability goals and, measuring and reporting on progress.
3. Key Responsibilities:
Areas of responsibility include:
Strategy Development: • Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with the Group's values and business objectives • Identify opportunities for sustainable practices and drive innovation in environmental and social initiatives
Environmental Management: • Conduct environmental impact assessments and develop strategies to measure and minimize the Group's carbon footprint both at group level and at individual company level • Implement resource conservation measures and waste reduction programs • Support the Group with Sustainable Procurement, Sustainable Product Design Assessments and Sustainable Life Cycle Assessments
Stakeholder Engagement: • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build strong relationships and partnerships • Communicate the Group's sustainability efforts to all stakeholders, including employees, customers, investors, supply chain partners and the broader community • Where possible, favourably differentiate the Group on the basis of its Sustainability performance • Assist all business winners across the group in submitting compliant tender documents where sustainability criteria is a critical element of competitive tenders • Assist in supply chain alignment and management from a sustainability perspective by way of establishing sustainability criteria for each supply chain partner • Develop and manage internal communication channels for management and staff as part of continuous learning about sustainability principles, sustainability measurement, management, compliance and competitive advantages in tendering and business winning activities
Social Responsibility: • Oversee social responsibility programs, including community engagement and philanthropic initiatives • Ensure fair labour practices (including diversity, equal opportunities and eliminating gender bias) and ethical sourcing throughout the supply chain
Metrics and Reporting: • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for sustainability initiatives • Regularly measure, analyze, and report on the Group's progress towards sustainability goals and UK and EU statutory requirements
Employee Training and Engagement: • Develop and deliver sustainability training programs for employees. • Foster a culture of sustainability by promoting awareness and engagement
Budget Management: • Develop and manage the sustainability budget, ensuring cost-effective implementation of initiatives • Identify opportunities for cost savings through sustainable practices
4. Qualifications and Skills:
Personal Attributes: • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to making a positive impact. • Leadership and people management qualities with the ability to inspire and motivate others
Education/Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Business, or a related field. Master's degree preferred • Relevant certifications in sustainability (e.g., CSR, LEED, ISO 14001) are a plus
Experience: • Minimum of 3 years in a sustainability-related role, with a proven track record of successful program implementation. • Project management and team leadership
Knowledge: • Deep understanding of environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards Skills: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools
