Data Scientist, Actuarial

London/Hybrid

circa £55k plus bonus plus benefits

Python, R, VBA

Data Scientist is required by the actuarial department of award winning insurance organisation. The key purpose of this role will be to analyse syndicate performance by creating dashboards and developing predictive models and machine learning techniques. You will also support other teams to improve analytics in other divisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of predictive analytics to provide insights on reserves, capital and the key drivers of underwriting performance.
  • Use strategic tools and techniques for delivering insights to the business teams.
  • Work with Operations and IT to manage projects to implement the new models into production.
  • Support the implementation of best practice actuarial modelling techniques and processes (including machine learning) throughout the Actuarial division.
  • Recommend new tools and methods of analysis that can improve the understanding of both past and potential future performance.
  • Understand and highlight any material modelling risks to key stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of new methods to enhance understanding of the key drivers of performance and predict future performance of the business
  • Deploy new tools and methods of analysis to the relevant business teams
  • Provide training and support to users of new models and techniques to ensure that tools are understood consistently across the relevant user groups.
  • Keep at the forefront of data science and machine learning tools and techniques to ensure that own skills business methods of modelling and analysis are current and fit for purpose.
  • Present results of analysis to a variety of audiences, both internal and external, with differing levels of experience and knowledge of both data science and insurance
  • Act as a champion for machine learning and predictive analytics within the division, including providing training and sharing knowledge in formal and informal ways.

Key Requirements:

  • Mathematical, Actuarial or Computer-Science background.
  • Actuarial knowledge is desirable but not essential
  • Insurance knowledge/experience is desirable but not essential
  • Coding skills include Python, R, VBA.
  • A background in Data Science and Machine Learning
