MATERNITY COVER (9 MONTH MINIMUM)
25 HOURS PER WEEK
To assist the Head of Finance & I.T to ensure the finance functions of the charity meet governance requirements of relevant legal, regulatory and monitoring frameworks in line with Charity Commission requirements.
The key responsibilities of the postholder are divided under four headings which relate to our organisations' strategic business aims:
To assist in maintaining the charity's Nominal Ledger accounting system in accordance with the charity's financial policies and procedures.
Ensuring that the Charity's Accounts Payable system is maintained, to include the accurate logging, apportioning and coding of invoices into the Charity's accounting system.
To enter invoices due for payment into the Charity's Online Banking system in a timely and accurate manner in line with existing procedures.
To carry out weekly bank reconciliations for all charity bank accounts in accordance with the charity's financial policies and procedures.
The production of the charity's monthly cashflow and balance sheet reconciliation.
Maintain an accurate and up to date register of the charity fixed assets
To assist where necessary with the production and monitoring of the Charity's monthly management accounts.
Banking of any income received
Ensure that financial queries are prioritised and responded to within a reasonable timescale.
Maintain filing and other electronic information storage systems to ensure that up to date information is readily available when required for statutory returns and management accounts.
To work within the policy and procedures of the Gordon Moody Association
Assist the Head of Finance & I.T with the setting and monitoring of budgets into the charity's accounting system (Xero)
Produce regular reports to monitor income from housing benefit payments and rent for managers.
Ensure that accounting ledgers (project, purchase, expenses, sales) and balance sheet items are fully reconciled monthly and that reconciling items are promptly addressed, including accruals and prepayments being processed accordingly.
To work flexibly, as required, to meet the needs of the charity and undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Finance and IT or the Chief Executive.
To carry out ad-hoc projects and analysis as required to support the business needs
To carry out pension administration, in line with the charity's internal procedures and in line with statutory requirements under auto enrolment.
Assist in year-end reconciliations together with reports for audits in conjunction with the Head of Finance and IT.
Working alongside the Head of Finance & I.T, looking at expenditure within departmental budgets / cost centres and advise on corrective actions where necessary (cost savings or identification of overspends)
Assisting the Head of Finance & IT with the annual audit process in conjunction with appointed auditors to ensure statutory accounts are produced within the required deadlines

PERSON SPECIFICATION -ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
AAT Level 4 qualified and have knowledge of financial systems and protocols, long-standing experience of working in a similar role. Experience of working in the voluntary sector, or small charity.
Experience in using an accounting system in practice (Xero or similar software) Ideally within the non-profit sector
Advanced Book-keeping with a High level of numeracy skills Previous experience of having assisted with external audits
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and word
Experience of financial administration
Excellent communication/people skills both written and verbal
Ability to evidence a commitment to our values
Ability to work under pressure, with excellent attention to detail
