Reporting into the General Counsel, focus on operational aspects of Aldermore's retail banking and corporate business for commercial contracts. Acts as principle, stand-alone contact within the legal team for these issues and provides a high quality, cost effective legal service whilst continuously seeking to improve personal competencies and appropriate processes, practices and policies.
Responsibility for commercial agreements with suppliers and Aldermore group companies, including business process outsourcing agreements, agency agreements, referral agreements, recruitment agreements, marketing agreements, IT agreements and other supply agreements as well as letters of intent and general commercial law matters.
Provides high quality legal advice and input into new strategic projects and also the renegotiation and restructure of existing initiatives both with external and internal counterparties.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of all types of contractual arrangements conducted in a highly regulated sector.
Supporting other departments through training and also the development of legal templates and checklists.
Provides concise and easily understandable advice (legal and commercial) and applicable solutions on complex subject matters.
Demonstrate creativity and innovation in reaching solutions through challenging the status quo and "thinking outside the box".
Proactively takes responsibility to identify, assess, manage and report legal risk issues.
Understands and addresses root causes of business problems in order to reduce legal and reputational risk from such issues, drawing appropriate learnings to prevent their recurrence.
Identifies and anticipates key regulation that has application to business activities in particular where impacts will fall on Aldermore's reputation and people. The Person
The role requires a good working knowledge of all aspects of regulated banking together with a thorough understanding of the banking business, its drivers, challenges and market practices
A good working knowledge of the UK regulatory framework for financial products and services and a sound understanding of the following aspects:
A comprehensive awareness of the business needs, commitments and responsibilities including product knowledge, distribution channels of Aldermore and its competitors.
Current and anticipated legal regulatory issues affecting Aldermore and the industry generally.
Sound experience in material outsourcing, IT and procurement agreements.
Whilst a focus on Commercial contracts, there is a need for an understanding (or a willingness to learn) multiple areas of the law including knowledge of ancillary areas of law, e.g. data protection and intellectual property.
Legal case management and operational processes.
Corporate Governance challenges for UK corporates and particularly those in the financial services industry and in a listed-environment.
Well defined project management skills, managing multiple, conflicting interests and deadlines.
Experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships within and outside of the Division.
Demonstrates sound judgement.
Possess strong influencing skills - able to advise the business on the best approaches, helping them to understand the constraints/risks and assisting the business in developing solutions. Qualification
The person must hold either a current Solicitors Practising Certificate for England and Wales or be fully admitted to the English Bar or hold a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction equivalent qualification
