Medical Electronics Technician

Our client in the Sunderland area are looking for a Medical Electronics Technician to provide technical electronic and medical engineering support to the Equipment Department in the delivery of its service to the Trust. This is initially a 40 hour per week, 12 week temporary contract with vision of being taken on permanent after the 12 weeks.

The purpose of the job is:

To assist in the management, repair, test and calibration of biomedical equipment used within the Trust, ensuring it is in safe working order.

Provide advice and information to clinical and non-clinical staff on the use of biomedical equipment and devices and also on purchase or replacement of equipment.

Provision of a scheduled maintenance service plan for all biomedical equipment.

Provision of a repair service for all unscheduled maintenance.

Provision of a commissioning service for all new equipment.

Provision of a quarantine service for all equipment as it reaches its "end of life"

The post holder is required to maintain Quality System Procedures as relevant to the post. Follows service policies and procedures on waste management. Adhere to the infection control policy on vehicle cleaning and decontamination.


HNC in electronic engineering or equivalent experience is the minimum qualification

Full UK driving license.

Have a minimum of two years experience working in a related environment

Be fully computer literate, have the ability to learn new software as required and have a good understanding of common applications such as Microsoft Office Suite

Have a good understanding of the safety issues relating to the equipment including Health and Safety legislation, Handling and Moving regulations, COSHH regulations, MHRA recommendations and the MHRA Adverse Incident reporting procedures

Must be able to interpret and implement departmental test procedures and, where appropriate, devise safe and effective test tasks.

Be able to diagnose and evaluate faults in equipment comprising of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical or combination systems

Good inter-personal skills and be able to communicate effectively with people of all disciplines using a variety of mediums

Able to work independently using their own initiative and to prioritise work to achieve departmental objectives

The ability work under pressure, with minimal supervision, and be able to adapt to constant changes in work priority

Ability to pay careful attention to detail


Have an understanding of ambulance-aid principles and the way in which medical equipment is deployed relative to the care and treatment of patients in the operational environment

Full UK driving license including C1 category

Be trained in Defibrillator maintenance

Valid First Aid Certificate
