AWS Cloud and Security Engineer
A Central Government Department in London are currently seeking a Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer on a Permanent basis. Working in a team of 4 infrastructure specialists and engineers, this role develops, secures and maintains their infrastructure network in an AWS environment.
This is a hybrid role, 2-3 days on site.
Main Duties:
- Maintain integrity and security of cloud based infrastructure and software by working closely with our SOC, resolving security-related incidents, monitoring vulnerabilities, applying patches & configuration changes as recommended or as required eg server hardening, deploying certificates etc.
- Actively manage and lead on infrastructure projects and programmes to ensure that their designs comply with the agreed strategies and architectures.
- Provide expert guidance in the ITIL based technical governance forums (ARB, CAB and steering groups)
- Manage the operational relationships with infrastructure suppliers, making sure services and products are delivered and aligned to industry best practice and regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Lead the design, configuration, testing, implementation and maintenance of cloud based (AWS and Azure based) server, storage and compute solutions.
- Ensure the cloud infrastructure meets internal Key Performance Indicators (availability and performance).
- Ensuring adherence to industry best practice for instance ITIL, and relevant guidance from pan-government sources like NCSC, GDS and commercial sources.
- Investigate and resolve incidents/problems escalated through the Service Desk, Applications and Security teams and provide them with guidance and support.
Experience:
- Right to work in the UK.
- Proven AWS skills including Infrastructure as Code, AWS Security, monitoring, and automation.
- Core developer skills including version control, Scripting language eg Bash/Python, AWS Security, monitoring, automation, and Docker & serverless technologies.
- Experience in information security and the types of security controls that can be used to mitigate security threats within solutions and services with a strong focus on cloud security and implementing remediations to vulnerabilities.
- Experience in initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including 3rd line escalations, consulting specialists where required and implementing preventative measures.
- Effective stakeholder management and development skills and proven ability of communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evidence of keeping yourself up to date with knowledge of future developments in cloud computing and experience of re-platforming and transformation.
