Adecco specialist division North is excited to be partnering with an amazing NW Higher Education provider to assist them in recruiting for a permanent Principal Mechanical Engineer to manage the Facilities and compliance team in Manchester.

Purpose

The Principal Mechanical Engineer will work within the organisation's Facilities Maintenance and Compliance Unit (FMC), take the lead in driving forward the mechanical works program as well as developing and overseeing the utilities infrastructure of the University which has a current portfolio of 229 buildings.

Duties

  • To manage a team of mechanical engineers and other technical staff, in the development and monitoring of cost effective LTM, PPM & reactive maintenance schemes across buildings and infrastructure
  • Establish and maintain standard specifications for both new installations and maintenance activities as appropriate
  • Design, implement and maintain policies that ensure mechanical maintenance procurement is carried out in a manner that meets legislative, statutory, safety requirements, good practice, and is cost effective
  • Assist in the setting up of performance management systems incorporating Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
  • Take on the role of the University's Responsible Person for Legionella, monitor and implement works to keep the University compliant
  • Undertake Health & Safety requirements for the Mechanical team, ensuring that requirements are collectively understood and implemented consistently, incorporating up-to-date legal compliance and best practice
  • Directly responsible to the Head of Facilities - Maintenance and Compliance from whom professional, technical and policy guidance is received as necessary but with the minimum of supervision;

Candidate requirements

  • Relevant academic qualification to Degree level in a Facilities, Construction, or Building Services Engineering, related discipline (MEng, BEng or other)
  • Be a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Surveyor and hold Professional Chartered Membership of CIBSE, IMechE, RICS, or equivalent Professional Institution or working towards .(desirable)
  • Significant relevant experience at a senior level with a client side large portfolio holder
  • PPM and CAFM system experience - facilities and planned preventive maintenance;
  • Experience of producing high quality reports and correspondence and giving clear oral reports/presentations.
  • Knowledge of: a) Health & Safety legislation b) Facilities Management best practice c) Contractual practices and procedures d) People management and related Human Resources issues

Salary & Benefits

  • £57,696-£68,857 annum (+ market supplement of £13,000 per annum, depending on relevant experience)
