Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Senior Database Administrator for an initial 6 month contract with option to extend on a rate of £475/day (Outside IR35). This role will be hybrid working with at least one day per week onsite in Edinburgh.
Responsibilities:
- Manages database configuration(s) including installing and upgrading software Servers and application tools, ensuring that all standard procedures are observed, applying fixes, and maintaining supplier and user documentation.
- Monitors trends in database activity and ensures efficient access to data, working with data analysis and database design functions where appropriate. Initiates regular exercises to optimise database performance.
- Plans for backup and recovery of database information, ensuring backup is carried out as per plans, planning and managing exercises to prove recovery procedures. Ensures that recovery plans are tested regularly. Implements recovery procedures when necessary.
- Prototyping migration of Oracle database(s) from On-Prem to Cloud platforms.
- Helps to resolve problems (eg poor performance) and faults (eg system failure) occurring in the operation of hardware and software - especially those requiring greater installation expertise.
- Installs software using supplied installation instructions and tools within established procedures and quality systems, including, where appropriate, hand-over to client.
- Follows agreed standards, including, where appropriate, those for electrical work.
- Initiates action to maintain or improve installation procedures and standards within area of authority, recognising issues that need to be escalated.
- Manages the storage and backup systems to provide agreed service levels.
- Designs moderately complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications, using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result.
Essential Skills:
- At least 5 years' experience of as working as Oracle Database Administrator, ideally on Unix platforms.
- Experience of Oracle 10g/11g/19c RAC GRID ASM Infrastructure database administration.
- Good working knowledge of Oracle Materialized Views.
- Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c/13c.
- Oracle Discoverer and dataguard
- Patching various Oracle components including CPU and release updates.
- Shared responsibility for cloning, RMAN backup, recovery and monitoring.
- Deal with change requests and end-user queries for the systems that you will be primary DBA for.
- Deal with serious and critical production Oracle issues in a timely manner.
- Provide database performance tuning advice to application development teams.
- A logical, analytical approach to problem solving and paying close attention to detail.
- A demonstrable knowledge of IT standards in the areas of Compliance, Change and Governance.
- Strong organisational skills, including a demonstrable ability to balance competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, having the ability to communicate to a range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of database Scripting and automation technologies
