The Role

We are currently partnered with one of the UK's largest and most successful educational institutions who are looking for a highly organised and process orientated professional to join their finance department as a Category Buyer.

The role provides an opportunity to support the Category Manager and ensures compliance with Financial Regulations. As the Category Buyer, you will be joining a fast paced and dynamic Finance department and providing purchasing support and coordinating approval processes in line with set policies and regulations.

Responsibilities and key duties:

As the Category Buyer you will be responsible for a number of general responsibilities and main duties, including but not limited to the below:

  • You will be responsible delivering a professional and customer-focused purchasing service for a specific category set out by the Category Manager. This will either be Major Projects or Estates and Facilities.
  • As the Category Buyer you will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing process, starting from receiving requirements to placing purchase orders, whilst keeping the Faculty or Service up to date with the status of their request.
  • You will be responsible for creating contract renewal reports, working with Faculty/Service to renew assigned category contracts and help the Category Manager with complex and big renewals.
  • You will be responsible for organising and planning your own workload in order to support to the Finance Strategy by making sure all of your objectives are met.

Essential Skills:

As the successful candidates you will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • You will have a comprehensive understanding of procurement processes and be able to work by following a variety of policies and regulations.
  • You will be able to demonstrate previous experience dealing with suppliers, by requesting quotes or negotiating prices.
  • You will have the ability to read and understand complex language from supplier documents and be able to make compliant decisions in line with regulations.
  • You will have the ability to work effectively with others and experience building successful corporate relationships.
