Server and Storage Specialist

This position is for a Storage specialist engineer to join the team to help deliver the best service and support to our clients. Developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, specifically around SAN storage. Designing, installing, and maintaining storage infrastructure ensuring the availability, performance, and security of the data stored on various devices and platforms. You will be part of our SOC, working alongside L3 RMM and the wider team.

What will you be doing:

  • Analyzing the current and future needs of the organization and its clients in terms of data storage and backup solutions.
  • Planning, designing, and implementing server and storage systems that meet the requirements and budget of the organization and its clients.
  • Configuring, testing, and troubleshooting server and storage hardware and software, such as SAN, NAS, RAID, VMware, VEEAM, etc.
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance, capacity, and reliability of the Servers and storage systems.
  • Performing regular backups and restores of data whilst ensuring compliance with data protection policies and regulations.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to users and other IT staff on server and storage issues.
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies and trends in the server and storage domain.
  • Documenting and updating the server and storage policies, procedures, and configurations.
  • Focusing on the continuous operation of the various customer estates; many of them running in a high availability environment.
  • Incident resolution and monitoring of the supported estate through a number of key monitoring (RMM) tools.
  • Ensure user tickets and monitoring alerts are handled per pre-defined SLAs for response time, updates, and closure.
  • Respond to requests via monitoring tools, email requests etc
  • Participate in availability, capacity, and change management processes.
  • Handling technical incidents and changes across the SAN storage and VMware estate.
  • Perform troubleshooting on performance and optimization related issues when required.
  • Data Centre experience
  • Migrations and DR rehearsal and execution
  • Storage management and capacity reporting

What skills will you have:

  • Prior experience in a 24 x 7 Network Operations Centre/Service Desk Environment.
  • 3rd level technical service experience level a must.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (Communication to customers verbal and written is mandatory)
  • 5-7 years working experience with multiple SAN storage technologies.
  • Windows/Unix, HyperV, Vmware experience
  • Experience of monitoring tools and setup
  • Prior experience in a 24 x 7 Network Operations Centre/Service Desk Environment.
  • 3rd level technical service experience level a must.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (Communication to customers verbal and written is mandatory)
  • 10+ years working experience with multiple SAN storage technologies.
  • Windows/Unix, HyperV, Vmware experience
  • Experience of monitoring tools and setup
  • Experienced with ITIL Framework
  • Migration and project experience
  • SAN Storage related courses/certs

Essential Skills:

  • HPE, Dell storage experience
  • SAN Zoning
  • Server and Virtualization
  • Backup technologies
  • Snapshots/Replication
  • Performance optimization

Desirable Skills:

  • NetApp
  • VMware/Hyper-V
  • Windows/Unix
  • Backup and Archiving
  • Networking experience

To succeed in this role, you'll need knowledge of utilising ITIL v3/v4 best practice as well as experience within an IT customer service environment.

You would be required to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience of working on multi-vendor SAN Storage platforms.
