Purpose of the job:

Leading the commercial activities on projects delegated from senior team. Delivering the scope of the project appointment, managing assistant staff and regularly reporting progress to senior Base team and Client.

Definition and Responsibilities (and not limited to)

Usually professionally qualified and/or having significant experience. Capable of running demanding projects or teams with minimal supervision including organising and co-ordinating the work of other surveying staff. Able to confidently represent the company in the normal project team environment in all of the following areas: Quantity Surveying Design & Project Management Arbitration and Litigation Support Claims & Dispute Management Commercial Management and Estimating Adjudication

Must have ability to deliver the following activities confidently and mentor junior staff members on these skills as part of the leadership role of this senior position:

  • Clearly establish client's requirements and requirements for cost planning exercises.
  • Guide and/or complete cost planning and value engineering to RIBA design stages and give informed client cost advice.
  • Able to advise on procurement strategies and best practice.
  • Supervise the compilation of tender and contract documents, including checking BOQ's.
  • Interrogate tender appraisals and recognise risk areas for the client.

  • Be able to produce project reports
  • Capable of producing claim reports under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Issue notices in accordance with the contract under claim situation and advise client on strategy.
  • Strong leadership skills and excellent ability to communicate with other members of the project or client team.
  • Manage variation and risk register information on behalf of the client.
  • Able to prepare final accounts.
  • Confident to attend and lead project meetings.
  • Practiced in producing CVR's.
  • An understanding of ADR methods.

Essential

  • Degree qualified.
  • Able to manage, lead and mentor teams.
  • Good technical knowledge of construction.
  • Strong knowledge of building economics.
  • Numerate.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Smart & presentable.
  • Confident.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Good communicator.
  • A team player.
  • Amenable with taking instruction and delivering work as advised.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Willingness to work on a secondment role in a client's office or on site premises
  • Car driver.

Desirable

  • Excellent and evidenced at applying initiative.
  • Keen to become a RICS Chartered QS and complete the APC.
