About the Role

We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our dedicated team at HMP Kilmarnock on a part time 1-2 days a week basis 9am - 5pm. This role is based on site at HMP Kilmarnock and may see you have contact with prisoners. As a Health and Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing on-site specialist advice, assurance, and support, ensuring that our operations comply with corporate, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert on-site Health, Safety, Environment & Fire (HSEF) support to specified J&I contracts.
  • Occasionally travel across UK J&I contract sites as needed.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to enhance organisational resilience across J&I contracts.
  • Promote understanding and adherence to corporate, contractual, and regulatory HSEF requirements.
  • Advise on measures to manage HSEF-related risks, including evaluating exposure, implementing mitigation measures, and interpreting policies.
  • Guide the development and implementation of protocols for a consistent, sustainable HSEF management system and culture.
  • Support operational staff in ensuring HSEF awareness and best practices are Embedded.
  • Undertake HSEF inspections as required.
  • Identify, advise upon, and deliver HSEF-related training.
  • Provide specialist support to bid and transformation projects/programs.
  • Advise on and deliver HSEF-related communications.
  • Conduct investigations in response to SHE-related incidents.
  • Represent J&I contract interests and provide HSEF advice to business support functions within the J&I business unit.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proven expertise in managing HSEF.
  • Minimum NEBOSH level 3 (or equivalent recognised body).
  • Member of IOSH.
  • Understanding of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • People management skills.
  • Effective communication with leaders, managers, and front-line employees.
  • Ability to maintain productive engagement with business customers and stakeholders.
  • Forward-thinking with the ability to make choices based on operational objectives.
  • Influencing skills and personal impact.
  • Proven ability to manage change.
