Geospatial Consultant

Philip Farrelly & Co was established in 1977 and since then has become recognised as a leading private sector based agri-environmental consultancy. The group now encompasses a number of separate businesses including agri-environmental consultancy, accountancy and financial services.

We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced Geospatial Consultant to join our team to support the delivery of projects across the country. We have a long-term pipeline of projects across the infrastructure planning and agri-environmental sphere. The position will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to take a leading role working on the delivery of a variety of projects. The ideal candidate will be qualified in Geography, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing or equivalent and have a min 5 years experience working on complex technical projects within a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will work alongside colleagues and clients to develop digital and geospatial solutions across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on delivering research and environmental projects. You will need to have excellent technical skills and have enthusiasm to develop innovative solutions to enhance our capabilities in geospatial and digital solutions.

Essential Skills/Attributes

• Qualified to degree MSc level in Geography, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing or equivalent.
• Experience using ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
• Experience in geospatial analysis and modelling.
• Knowledge/experience using Python, SQL, JavaScript.
• Experience of developing web mapping applications including AGOL and mobile data collection.
• Knowledge of databases and GIS systems integration (MS SQL Server, Postgres, PostGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE; Data management and standards knowledge and experience.
• Experience working with Spatial Analysis and Data Management tools such as, hydrological analysis, surface analysis and interpolation tools would be a distinct advantage.
• Strong numerical and reporting skills, including experience with statistical analysis software (e.g. R).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, a full driving licence and access to a car.
• Good all-round IT literacy and an interest in leveraging new technology.
• Aptitude for applying analytical thinking to solving problems.
• A self-starter with the ability to research, understand and implement solutions to a variety of challenges.
• Ability to work within a team environment and under own initiative to achieve project goals.
• Understanding peatland environments will be an advantage.
• Experience using vector, raster and LiDAR data with demonstrable experience.
• Experience working in remote environments.

Desirable Skills

• A PhD in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Ecology or equivalent.

The role

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Work as part of the Environment team to deliver project requirements;
• Manage medium to large scale projects from inception to completion;
• Contribute to the commercial development of the company, including the provision of technical input on tender proposals and actively seeking out new opportunities.
• Undertake occasional field visits for example to replace data loggers.
• Efficiently manage interactions with project team members and sub-consultants;
• Liaising with client representatives to progress projects effectively;
• Delivering fit for purpose project outputs, including reports and datasets within set deadlines;
