Grayshott Village Hall is seeking a caretaker to look after our popular village hall, accommodation is provided on-site.

  • Salary: £15,200, 34 hours per week - see below for further details.
  • Candidates should include details of relevant experience and skills when submitting their application.
  • Deadline for submission of applications: Monday 13 th November 2023.
  • Candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified by Sunday 19th November 2023.
  • Interviews will be held on Thursday 30 th November 2023 when there will be the opportunity to tour the Village Hall and view the accommodation.

Key Duties

  1. Cleaning & Servicing: To clean the premises and remove waste on a regular basis.
  2. Setting up: To assist users with the setting out of chairs, tables and other equipment.
  3. Systems: To manage and adjust systems and services (e.g. heating & fire alarm) as and when required
  4. Maintenance: To provide general assistance with the maintenance of the Hall and liaise with contractors and tradespeople.
  5. Bookings: To keep the Booking Secretary aware of any booking enquiries received.
  6. Liaison with Users: To interact in a friendly manner with users.
  7. Access to Premises: To open and close the hall at appropriate times.
  8. Grounds: To maintain an orderly appearance of the outside areas.

Further Information

Grayshott Village Hall consists of four halls and one meeting room for use by the inhabitants of the village of Grayshott and the surrounding area. The charity is run by a volunteer Management Committee with the assistance of the resident caretaker.

Accommodation

An attached cottage inclusive of gas, water and electricity is provided free of charge (taxable benefit), the post holder being responsible for paying the council tax. Full details of the conditions of occupancy will be provided to the successful candidate. The accommodation comprises:

Ground Floor Small Office / Entrance Hall, Galley Kitchen and Lounge.

First Floor Double Bedroom, Box Room, Bathroom & WC.

There is a large garden and off-street parking.
Candidates should be aware that as the accommodation is attached to the Village Hall there will be some noise transmission at times between the halls and the caretaker s cottage.

Hours

The Halls are normally used by the public between the hours of 8.30am and 10.30pm ( Monday to Saturday ), however the post holder must expect to work outside of these hours to open and close the Halls before and after bookings and to make the rooms ready for use, or when a late booking has been accepted. The number of hours required to complete the duties of the caretaker and exactly when they will be worked will vary on a week-by-week basis depending on the usage of the Hall but on average will not exceed 34 hours per week (Monday to Saturday).

Holiday

28 days paid holiday (inclusive of bank and public holidays) per annum.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

The successful candidate will be required to undertake and disclose the results of a Basic DBS check, the cost of which will be reimbursed by the charity.
