Venesky-Brown's client, a public sector organisation in Livingston, is currently looking to recruit a Catering Assistant for an initial 4 week contract on a rate of £10.90/hour PAYE. The working hours are 20 hours per week - Monday - Thursday 11am-3pm, Friday 9.45am-1.45pm. This role will be based onsite until 22nd December.
Responsibilities:
- Basic preparation of a range of foods and beverages eg hot meals, vegetables, snacks, sandwiches, rolls etc.
- Assist in preparing meals for special dietary needs if necessary.
- Making up trays and buffets and transporting as necessary.
- Transporting and serving food, including packing, loading and unpacking of food containers.
- Comply with current health and safety legislation and food hygiene regulations.
- Advise customers of any allergen information as requested.
- Assist in the organisation/preparation of special event days.
- Coordination of food preparation in the event of special functions, arranging the delivery of prepared food, table layouts and hot plates.
- Assist with the washing up.
- Clean kitchen area, including kitchen floor, worktops, cookers etc.
- Counter, shop and coffee bar including till duties (this includes the handling of cash).
- Cleaning tables and mopping spillages at the end of each service period.
- Ensure safe and secure storage of all kitchen equipment, foodstuffs and beverages.
- May be required on occasion to work evening or weekend shifts.
- Any other duties arising and pertaining to the post.
- Participate (either full or part time) in specific lifelong projects financed by European Social Funding, European Regional Development Funding or European Partnership Projects.
Essential Skills:
- Should have a good general education.
- REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Hold the following qualification or be in the process of working towards SVQ Level 2 Food Preparation and Cooking or similar qualification.
- Previous experience of basic catering, food preparation and customer service.
- Knowledge of current food safety and Health & Safety legislation.
Desirable Skills:
- Previous large scale catering in a similar environment.
- Willingness to undertake further training.
